Apparently (checking the results/notifications/messages now) I was meant to give a reason for my vote to count this time around. In which case, AssClass wouldn't have tied. I have failed you all (well, everyone except the majority that voted for Owarimonogatari).

Sweet 16

☠ The 16 shows that make it out of the Round of 32 will be pitted against each other in 1 vs. 1 matches.
☠ Vote for the show you want to see advance. Starting from this round, you must provide a valid reason for your choice. Reasons such as "this show is awesome", "the other show sucks", "WOOOOOOOOOOO", "just because", "someone told me to", etc., are not acceptable. All votes are subject to admin approval and will be checked to see if they meet our requirements.
☠ 8 shows will make it out of this round.
☠ Example vote:

Match 1: Food Wars - It is probably one of my favorite Shounens of all time. It combines classic shounen fighting with food, what more can I ask for?
Match 2: Assassination Classroom - Koro-sensei was one of the best characters of 2015 and his interactions with all his students made for an enjoyable show.

Damn another tough match up between 2 shows I love.

Match 3: Sound! Euphonium Reason: I fully expect NNB to win and it is a worthy candidate, but I gave to give the nod to Sound! Euphonium because it was a completely new take on the high school SoL genre I had not seen before. Also it resparked my love for classical music (esp. Baroque) and memories of my time in band. It is very tough voting against Renge and the gang, but I do have to be true to my heart.

vs.

Match 4 : Death Parade Reason: From a fantastic OP to an unique look at the afterlife in which guilt or innocence is judged through games. While I had questions about the games. Such as impartiality which was addressed to a degree in the show or fairness which wasn't; I couldn't help but marvel at the ingenuity of the creators in taking a completely new take on the judgement of Saint Peter at Heaven's Gate.

Match 4

Death Parade / This was a hard choice but I liked the chhallebes of the game and human truths which are so easy to hide. That added to some great twists.

Match 3
Vote: Sound! Euphonium
I tend to be a sucker for drama, music, and stories that center around a small group of characters, so when combining all three of these things into one anime, it'd be incredibly hard for said anime not to appeal to me. Throw in things like a bit of realism, plenty of drive for the characters, some nice variety in character dynamics, and perhaps a small bit of a surprise factor that KyoAni didn't simply make a K-ON rehash, though it should be noted that I have nothing against K-ON, and you have a winner in my book.
It seems like there's a lot I'm not seeing in NNB that somehow makes it a fantastic and underappreciated anime, but I can't vote for what I can't see; sorry.

Sweet Sixteen Round 2!

Match 3 : Non Non Biyori Repeat

Living in one of Japan's versions of Nowhere, Middle of, certainly is different from living in Tokyo, eh, Hotaru-chan?

Needing your dog to lead you back home. Getting lost at night because your flashlight's battery died. The only local store running out of fireworks.

But hey, you have friends. People you want to help and spend time with. And who want to help and spend time with you. Isn't that the most important thing? (At least for a slice of life series.)

Match 4 : Blood Blockade Battlefront

Welcome to Hellsalem's Lot, Leo. Where New York City met "Casablanca", Rifts (the rpg), and the Monogatari series.

Oh, and welcome to Libra - the last best hope for (something vaguely approaching) peace in Hellsalem's Lot.

And always remember, people aren't laughing at you, they're laughing with you. Right, guys?

...

I said RIGHT, GUYS?!?!?

Match 3: Sound! Euphonium - It kind of reminded by of my time spent in concert band back in elementary school. Ah, the memories.

Match 4: Death Parade - I think it had a really interesting take on what comes after death and how people's souls are judged.

I haven't always chosen based on my ratings of them, but I refuse to think too deep about which one I like more with this one, so I'll make it easy on myself.

Match 3
Non Non Biyori Repeat

Firstly, let me just say that I absolutely love Hibike! Euphonium. I think it has amazingly imperfect characters, well told drama, and a brilliant musical aspect. It's without a doubt one of my favourites of the remaining candidates. That being said, even if on the surface Non Non Biyori seems to not even have half the substance of Hibike! Euphonium, it doesn't matter, because it's just such a chill, fun, feelgood anime, that it doesn't matter that it's lacking in way of a rich plot, or particularly deep characters. And if its moe, cutesy nature puts you off, you don't have a soul... Fact. It's a funny, calming, and absolutely heartwarming slice of life anime, that could get by on it's sheer sweetness alone. Pretty much every single character has their pretty damn entertaining moments, in one way or another, be it through cuteness, laughter, or something else.

This is one of the few anime where I can ignore whatever faults it may or may not have, because I enjoy it far too much. It's easily amongst the best slice of life shows I've watched.

Match 3 - NNB - The chill atmosphere of this show and the realistic childhood attempts to alleviate hick-town boredom entertain me more than That One Time At Band Camp.

Match 4 - Death Parade: Not only was this show absolutely gorgeous in detail but that beauty was used perfectly to both project an air of mystery and to frame the setting (a bar in the afterlife that is actually a trial to judge your life's worth). Some people didn't like the episodic nature of the "games" but I am not one of those people. I also really liked Kekkai Sensen, btw but it carried less weight and the ending was weak IMHO.

Side note: I have heard people complain that the (amazing) OP doesn't match the tone of the show but it absolutely does. The whole message of Death Parade is that you should treasure your life and make the most of it.

Match 3
Non Non Biyori Repeat

Non Non Biyori returns with a wonderful Second Season. Sticking with the same formula, it still is great as ever. That is to say that everything about the show represents the ideal calm nature of the slice of life genre. The aesthetics, the characters, and the music all tie together to create this beautiful tone. Once again, it follows the daily life of the returning characters of Season 1 as they go to school, go on adventures, and much more. Still as of today, Natsumi reminds me of myself while growing up. Studying? I didn't have time for that. It was all about playing outside or some kind of sport activity. Thus, depending on the person, there are times nostalgia will kick in.

The scenery is the strongest part of the show for me. I can't give enough praise how the aesthetics of the scenery match the entire mood of the characters and the show itself. Effectively strengthening the slice of life elements. In this show, the color green is found everywhere, but in different shadings (light green, green, dark green, etc). The philosophy of Green is a color that represents harmony, balance, and growth. Which, in this show contains all of these elements to perfection. Another thing I want to mention is the use of simplicity. Simple in the case of the area they live in and the happiness they find in such simple things. Each episode showcases something different and rather simple, but with our characters. It livens it up quite a bit. Especially if we look at it in the point of view of Hotaru, a girl that moved here from the city. It is pretty astounding how her character starts improving. In episode 7, she was scared to jump off a simple bridge into the creek where the others did with ease. Until finally, she musters up the courage to do so. Elements like that, show the cultural difference between that of the City and rural life. If I recall what I said about this show last year, I still stand by this statement. This show continues to be one of the best slice of life series to date."

I love Copy and paste previous votes.

Match 4

- Neither. Death Parade did have one of my favorite episodes of the year. Blood Blockade Battlefront was pretty damn good too, but I will pass and let other voters decide who presses on in this Battle

Match 3: Sound! Euphonium

This is the show I've always been wanting KyoAni to release. Kyokai no Kanata came close and Hyouka was closer still, but they finally nailed it. This character driven, light drama, with beautiful animation is what KyoAni was destined to produced. It doesn't have any outlandish premise to put up stumbling blocks or provide big external conflicts. Its a small show and its focus is small and it nails it. Even better, it is about music and I love music anime. I need a second season.

As for Non Non Biyori, well it is the king of the Iyashikei. You cant help but feel happy and warm watching it and the characters are adorable and a ton of fun. That said, I think Iyashikei has a limit on how great it can be. Its emotional complexity and depth is lacking because everything works towards "good feel". Its great at that, but it will never be amazing. Also, I would have liked to see these characters develop further and see more of their life moving forwards, so the idea of "Repeat" was a bit of a letdown to me.

Match 4: Death Parade

First things first, Bradio is wonderful. Seriously, if you liked the OP of Death Parade, check them out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saOq9S8mfSc

Moving on, Death Parade is beautiful. The rawness of the human emotion portrayed through the premise to the emotional climax of the story. It is brilliantly written and animated and it joins the ranks of shows that have made me cry. I am so glad that Death Billiards was extended into a full show.

As for BBB, I really liked it, but it felt a little clunky in the way it operated. Nothing really stuck quite as well as it needed to. It succeeded at being a ton of fun, interesting and cool as all hell, but it didn't hold onto me for weeks like Death Parade did.
