I get where you're coming from and respect people who vote with this in mind.

To me personally though, it does little to make this match any less depressing though

While it's true that she's an orchestrating force, we know absolutely nothing about her motivations, desires, capabilities, or even if she's a real entity that can be defeated, coerced, or resisted. She may as well be maleficus ex machina. I agree that as a concept, Satella is interesting. As a character? Personally, I don't find her all that compelling. I mean, I'm sure in some stories characters behave according to their faith in a god, and perhaps the god even intervenes in the story, but I still wouldn't vote for it over an actual character.

I've never played the Zelda games, so unfortunately I can't relate to the comparison. The closest I might be familiar with might be something like Gwyn from Dark Souls, as he had a great deal of influence over events (even events befalling the player character) with you as the player knowing very little about him. Of course, that's not a fair comparison since Gwyn was more of a traditional character.

Nanako however was perhaps the most compelling and stand-out character from her show with a touching backstory to boot.. When translating, she was always boisterous and energetic. While not translating, she was almost "glum" and taciturn, yet not in an abrasive way. I was always really drawn to that dichotomy in her.

But, again, I respect voters for Satella even if I disagree.

But I gotta vote for Nanako. She just makes me feel so powarm.

Satella is like Sauron in LotR.

Perhaps. With Sauron at least we knew what he wanted (to conquer Middle Earth), how he wanted to get it (through the One Ring), and how to defeat him (by destroying the One Ring). We still don't even know what the heck she wants or what anything that happened in the show has to do with it.

But yea, I still think it's an interesting comparison. Such a distant and shadowy evil can be really cool when pulled off well.
