Plot Summary

Miss Kobayashi is your average office worker who lives a boring life, alone in her small apartment–until she saves the life of a female dragon in distress. The dragon, named Tohru, has the ability to magically transform into an adorable human girl (albeit with horns and a long tail!), who will do anything to pay off her debt of gratitude, whether Miss Kobayashi likes it or not. With a very persistent and amorous dragon as a roommate, nothing comes easy, and Miss Kobayashi’s normal life is about to go off the deep end!

Episode 1 is now maid to order. In other words, it's now out on Crunchyroll.

Episode 1

That was pretty amusing seeing Tohru trying and failing to be helpful. She has such a superiority complex when it comes to anybody except Kobayashi and she's letting that get to her head. What's particularly amusing is that encounter with the burglars while she's holding down the fort, or rather apartment, and Fafnir's advice is to kill them, but just scaring them away did the trick. It's off to a good start there, and certainly KyoAni made it look good.

Not as fun as Grabriel DropOut; but not bad either.

That's one way to wash clothes I guess

Yeah, I'm going to love this.

This appears similar to KyoAni's past work, Nichijou, with the atmosphere looking like an actual gag series. Danna ga Nani is another series Maid Dragon reminds me of too.

Neither Ishihara or Yamada are directing this, so we have Takemoto on the scene, which is evident since he worked on Nichijou too. The characters are all fun, yet down to earth and their presence is what makes the episode for me.

Also, the idea of a maid dragon is one of the most nerdiest concepts I've seen this season, haha.

It looks alright. Episode 1 has some funny gags, but that's about it. The way it's set up stops me from really feeling any weight coming from the main characters' relationship, which means I likely won't be sticking around for a full 12 episode run.

This is probably my most anticipated show this season (mainly because I've been a fan of the manga for awhile) that isn't a squeal, but I'm not going to lie. This first episode was pretty bland especially compared to the other great first episode of Slice of Life this season. Maybe my expectations were too high or the start of the manga is just weak compared to the later chapters. Sure looks and sounds nice, but that's about it.

I was expecting to like this one more than I did. Not to say it was bad, but it was really one of the few series this season I was actually somewhat excited about and it just sort of ended up being "Well, that was nice." I do love Kobayashi, though, and I really hope that she ends up returning Tohru's feelings at some point. Here's to next week hopefully grabbing me more than the debut did.
