It is though.
It's not as bad as some things, but it's not good. Maoyu is better.

Character-wise, Spice and Wolf is sort of flat. (I haven't seen most of the anime, I'm going by reading the first... five, I think? novels a few years ago. Five books is more than enough.)
I like the economics things, but a lot of that was really simplified and not that interesting (economics major, or at least I was at the time). Also... it reminded me of a couple of popular ships from things that I like that I really don't like - the whole "smart but human character + immortal supernatural who's really not nice to him and looks down on him" thing, except a flat version of that where it actually makes sense to ship it, and it reminded me of all the fans who take these other pairings and basically flatten them out into Spice and Wolf to ship it. But... no.

(If you want to know which pairings I mean.... one of them shares one voice actor with Spice and Wolf, the other shares a two voice actors with them. And both series also have a red-haired character who goes after the person who shares a voice with Spice, and in both series, that person also shares a voice actor with one or the other of them.)

Yuri!!! on Ice is just ok. just finished binging the series last night and it's just... ok. which makes me more than a little upset how it took all the awards. don't hate it, but i'll probably forget about it in a week.

I liked Maoyu for its Spice and Wolf-iness, but I thought it was too cheesy. I've only seen the anime, and I suppose I bought into the story and relationship entirely and enjoyed it for what it was. I'll have to watch Spice and Wolf again to see if I was being led on - which conveniently gives me an excuse to watch it again. To me it seemed like their relationship was pretty true to reality. And also - and this is just me, and my actual opinions are strange - I think Holo the character was a good and positive portrayal of women.

I am horrified by the notion. That reminds me, though: CC and Lelouch also had a pretty good "'smart but human character + immortal supernatural who's really not nice to him and looks down on him'" relationship.

Revenge themed anime's need to stop shoving "REVENGE BAD" trope down viewers throats, I swear every single fucking one does this.

YES! We're not little kids that need or want to be spoon-fed shallow morals, just tell the story! It's so overused and real-life isn't that simple. They're like "the only one I hurt... is me!" and we're like "dude you just let a mass murderer run off to kill more people..." or something like that.

I know people said 91 Days was one that was "revenge is bad!" but at least it was pretty subtle about it in comparison and I didn't feel like it was screaming at me to "see the truth" or something, if it wasn't for the article SAYING it was anti-revenge I probably wouldn't have even thought of it. "they had to make sure they didn't make the violence look appealing" what are you talking about? those men were living life and doing what they thought was right "following their hearts" and all that so really they didn't make it look THAT unappealing.

These are probably more manga opinion but I am sure they are ok to post.

In The World God Only Knows the best girl won.
In Nisekoi the worse girl won.

btw that black butler sabastion shit???? what the fuck was that. i couldnt even watch one episode of tht anime it was soooooooooooooooooo boooorrriingggg and ugly. yet all the middle school weeaboos hoes were OBSESSED. also FREE! ???? SO BORING ihated it

Honestly I really like Black Butler and Free. I've finished the whole series of Free and thought it was very fun to watch. Black Butler is also one of my favorites because of the story. I haven't finished it yet, but so far I'm really liking it...also, I know you didn't like either of them, but maybe your choice in words could be a bit kinder? I know that you are you and you're allowed to speak the way you please, but sometimes it comes out a lot meaner than it should have... I personally think that if you do have something to say about you not liking something, it's possible to say it kindly. Example: A lot of Otakus at my school were obsessed with Black Butler. I personally did not like it. Also, if you only watched one episode, I also don't see the point it being rude towards others about it...sorry for bringing this up, but it just sounded really mean...

drrr s2 sucked balls compared to s1
the adaptation as a novel reason in s2 compared to s1 was garbage, i understand it can't be perfect, but god, they adapted the novels badly.

The reason why yuri on ice and free went nuts was the fact that these had good animation for once. People act like enjoying art is a bad thing when that is what anime is animated art... Too many people imo throw out all the art and animation because one small part of the story wasn't exactly how they wanted it to be.... A lot of those "objective" type people under value the art/animation to a extreme degree. It is because art tastes vary too much and is hard to judge in a objective way.

I'm not sure which point you are trying to address but anyways.

There are multiple ways in which ANY media can objectively graded. In anime things like the frame rate, consistency of animation and character design, smoothness and fluidity of the animation, audio quality, voice acting, continuity, and many aspects of the story telling. An anime can tick all these boxes and score high marks in them and STILL be horribly boring to watch for most people.
The opposite is also true. Something can be poor in these regards but end up enjoyable.

On the note of generally preferring shoujo versions of particular plots; there are numerous examples of manga all falling within the same basic framework that I've read and ended up enjoying the shoujo versions more. Primarily because the shoujo versions, for obvious reasons, don't focus on pandering to teenage male virgins by having the whole thing revolve around the generic brown/black haired protagonist being OPaf and constantly being swarmed by women who like him because the author says so.
Does that mean I'm saying I prefer shoujo over shounen in general? No of course it doesn't. I am specifically referring to two stories in which BOTH have the same basic plot outline only one being shoujo and one being shounen. "stuck in a video game" stories for example.
My go to genre seems to be seinen cause that's where most of the Cute Girls Doing Cute Things SoLs seem to come from.

The goal of both are very different. You are right shoujo doesn't pander towards teenage males... it panders towards girls.... Making their checklist different from shounen...

What I was saying is I see a lot of people just totally disregard animation.I think a lot objective type anime watchers (well the ones that try to be) tend to disregard animation quite a bit.

Simply put there are many curses to shoujo that simply aren't in as many shounen shows like more/better animation. I feel like good animation promotes more pandering... *shrugs* The word pandering can me pretty much anything from school girl to a gundam fight scene.. Some shows just take it to far and throws everything out except the pandering, that is when it becomes really bad. Usually it is because their budget is too low so they aim low lol. From the shoujo anime I've seen animation is much less unless it is sort of a pandering show like Free! then the animation is better. I think yuri on ice (another shoujo with high quality animation.) is pandering but I haven't seen it, so I don't know how much.

Also just as a side note I was replying to you but I was also just sort of saying "My unpopular opinion is art/animation is underrated." Hence the long reply. . I wasn't really addressing anything tbh. It was just more of "checking". I just sort of randomly picked you hope you don't mind.

Btw I do that all the time where I say this is really good but I don't really like it.. It is always a strange feeling for me.
