I like watching some sport anime. I do find that there are a few irksome things that I dislike about them. Most either have all males participating or all female participants. In team sports that's understandable but when there are sports with individual competitions then there's no excuse just to zero in on all boys or all girls. I don't consider cheering from the side lines and or cleaning up after the team or being the team manager to be fully participating. Look at Free, a swim club with 5 members but only 4 swim or use the pool. Kou/Gou can't even use the excuse that she can't swim because neither did Rei when joined the club. She never even dipped a toe in the water.

This isn't meant to sway your opinion but just in terms of trivia; sports teams/clubs having a female manager is a long-term staple of Japanese high school sports programs irl. They are members, and it's something that can go a very long way on your resume after graduating high school, but they aren't athletes despite often working harder. (I'd like to think this means the girls' teams get bishounen managers, but somehow I expect that's unlikely.)

Is there a statistic for anime by source material? I feel like there used to be a lot more anime based on manga, enough that it was reasonable to just assume that. Recently, I feel like there are much more LN adaptations, game adaptations, originals, etc.

If the stats haven't been compiled they could be gotten from MAL or similar exhaustive directory sites. I can say from personal experience that original series and novel adaptations were alive and well in the 90s (and that those originals had about as good odds of being ludicrously atrocious as they did of being great). And I'd guess the rise in game adaptations generally matches the rise of games in general among the industry's target genres and demographics.

Edit: Perhaps not, I can't find a site that can search by source material. I thought MAL could before.

Edit: Oh I was thinking of http://www.someanithing.com, but that only goes back 10-12 years.

Attack on Titan was shit
there are good harems/battle harems
no anime series should go into triple digit episode counts. ever. and the ones that are there need to die already.
most shows in the Shonen demographic are horrible.
Sword Art Online wasn't THAT bad.
Hai to Gensou no Grimgar was the most consistent, and probably best show of 2016. still up in the air on that one.
EDIT: forgot to add this all important one
KyoAni is shit, and most of their shows are shit.

Everyone hates Valvrave, but I have it in my top 5 just because of him.
Best. Glasses. Character. Ever.
And I'm pretty thoroughly obsessed with Reisi and Saruhiko from K, and I still say X is the best glasses character.

The whole group. They're too gorgeous <3

I just wish the show had done more with them. You don't even get to find out their real names. (Except for Misha <3)

Unpopular opinion within the like, 3 people who actually like Valvrave? I ship Misha with A-drei, not Haruto.

Unpopular anime opinions

Bleach is great, even with the filler
AoT is average at best
There are maybe 200 episodes of Naruto worth watching between the two series
SAO is great
Active Raid was pretty good, I don't understand the average score it has here
Light Yagami was the hero
Neon Genesis Evangelion is great IF you're a tween full of angst about your place in this world. Otherwise it's meh

Bleach was good, even Kon at times. Still listen to the OSTs almost daily (background music). "Never Meant to Belong" is beautiful. Gin's death theme song still sad.

SAO 1 was good.
Sakura can be funny -- read the manga ("inner Sakura").
Most lolis gag me. Current exception is Tanya.
Orange was extremely annoying (because of Naho).
Ruka of Steins;Gate made me scream. I love traps (Kiyoka, Kuranosuke Koibuchi, Kei Yuuki) - but Ruka's demeanor make my claws extend.
I've fallen asleep during FMA so many times, I kind of gave up on this one. Must be a sign...
Boy band shows are definitely cute.

Edit #1: Rem is not a doormat.

Edit #2: Yuri On Ice crossed widely into mainstream. If an average person with no anime background whatsoever has heard of this show, credit should be given to it for going beyond our "walls".
