...that Aki Adagaki motivations are not bad/evil; however completly misunderstood, but are as a result of (potentially) life threating heath issue.

There is so much underrated stuff. People get stuck on saying X is overrated rather than saying Y is underrated.
Underrated shows are at a huge disadvantage to start with.

Almost all anime fans just have a check list of things they don't or do want. Quality is secondary for most people. Anime fans seems to get stuck on very small things that don't matter much. It is kind of just a big demographic war. The best way to describe it is keijo vs yuri on ice... booth of them target a certain crowds and really almost all anime do that. I am sure all the action fan boys were just jumping on yuri ice because of is great animation lol... even I do it and I try really hard not to.

Anime fans just pressure each other to like X anime waaay too much. Or to drag down a anime they didn't like. They don't seem to even try to bridge the gap at all. It is like they say "I am a anime fan but not like you." This whole thread is pretty much proof of that.

Attack on Titan is boring. Not a good show. I don't know what the fuss is about.

Angel Beats was bad. It didn't make me cry. It was filled with plot wholes and had so much potential it just wasted. If it had 24 episodes it might have pulled off something, but it might have just dug itself a deeper whole. I keep seeing it listed as "saddest anime" and I am always asking "why?" It has a kind of happy ending, and there are many shows that pull on the emotional heartstrings better than it, like Plastic Memories.

Also Re:Zero was ok, and it had a good start and the ending was pretty decent, but right around episode 11 I almost stopped watching it and found it boring with Subaru being extremely annoying for awhile. It did eventually sort of redeem itself, but I found Subaru's character change to be quite sudden and just wasn't very happy with it. Rem is best girl though, and I think she deserves way better than Subaru. Subaru and Emilia deserve each other. I had other animes I liked better last year, such as Hai to Gensou no Grimgar, but even that show had some parts I disagreed with the direction choices.

Also Erased was Ok, but I hated how rushed and forced the ending felt. I don't know. I just kind of felt disappointed with the ending.

On the not hating side:

I think SAO had some really good parts to it and I hate it when people outright dismiss it. In fact, my favorite arc was Mother's Rosario and I think the second season was better than the first because of the interactions between the real world and the game world and the problems the characters faced at this intersection of worlds.

I thought other good lesser known animes were ones like "Netoge no Yome..." (don't feel like typing out the full name). I liked that it was funny and that it showed women as hard core gamers (Seeing as I am a female gamer, and many of other women I know that play MMOs and RPGs like to play as male characters). I do wish it had less fan service, but otherwise liked it.

I think Yona of the Dawn is one of the best animes and the manga is even better. I guess that's not really unpopular, just not as common an opinion.

Most of my opinions are popular in Japan but not in English-speaking forums. Like, I like boy band shows. They're cute. But here, barely anyone is watching Marginal #4.

I'm watching Marginal #4 and Acca, that's it. Person ^^^ somewhere up there, I get what you're saying about not hating on genres, but you're not obligated to watch everything.

Hmm, that's the other thing. People always talk about being an anime fan, like it's what you are, not what you do. But they act like being an anime fan means that you have to appreciate the big titles, the shounen and shoujo things, whatever action show is popular at the time. But if you don't like action or romance shows, you're not going to watch the most popular things...

And like... if I have about as much interest in Drifters, Kiss Him Not Me, Tokyo Ghoul, Attack on Titan, SAO, Orange, Erased, etc. etc., as you have in Marginal #4... somehow, I get the sense that to some people, that means I don't have the right to watch Marginal #4, that I have to like the front-page-popular things in order to have the right to the other things.

I dunno, that just seems... bleh, to me...

I've seen hundreds of anime and am able to tell good from bad. But I non-ironically still enjoy SAO.
I don't think there are enough good yuri anime compared to yaoi.
High School DxD was awful.
Flat > PLOT
Plot > PLOT
I dislike the Cowboy Bebop opening and skip it every time.

Yuri!!!On Ice has some weaknesses...

There was too much focus on showing full skate programs and not enough on characters apart from [both]Yuris and Victor.
The family gets reduced to just puppets watching the action on TV and after the first episode have almost no impact.
The repetitive nature of showing full skate programs for every performer was that the implied drama of their music is spoiled after the first time- repeated viewings of the same thing it fails to make an emotional impact. This is increasingly problematic after episode 7...

I am capable of thinking a show is bad, and still liking it at the same time.

I don't have a problem with love stories that have large age gaps between the protagonists.

I believe that fanservice can carry a show if done correctly.

* The opposite is also true. Something can be objectively well done and you can understand why people like it, but also find it an absolute chore to watch.

Thought of some more:

There are good harems.
Watashi ga Motete Dousunda and Monster Musume are great. It's the all the "insert black/brown haired protagonist, probably of highschool age, into a setting in which he is surround by personified character archetypes who all love him for some inexplicable reason" battle shouen harems that are the problem. And yes SAO is one of them.

If there are two anime with a similar plot in which one is shounen and one is shoujo, the shoujo is probably better.

Flat is not justice.
