Didn't know where to put this, but I was looking into VRV because I wanted to get a crunchyroll sub again but saw VRV might be better deal. I only would use Crunchy, Funi and maybe Dramafever (although with Korean networks teaming up for a new service that might not be worth it.) The issues for me are, VRV doesn't look paypal supported, which is lame and i don't like that you can't get the service for longer than a month.

looks like i'll be getting just the crunchyroll sub then.

What I decided to do was sub to Crunchyroll and Funi separately. The reason was simple. I don’t use the other services at all, and the lack of an app for fire tv was the deal breaker. I subbed for a year to both, it roughly costs the same. I have apps on the fire tv for both.

But here’s the thing. I’m getting sick and tired of every time I come to Crunchyroll I have to click no on the page trying to push VRV down my throat. I don’t want it. I’m not going to want it any time soon. Stop pushing it. The more you push VRV, the less likely I’ll ever try it, ever.

**edit: I forgot about the lack of paypal support, and the fact that you can’t get an annual sub.

So here’s the dealbreakers:

1. No paypal
2. No annual sub
3. No fire tv app
4. Too many channels

@Mattumanu That makes sense. I had annual subscriptions to both CR and Funi before the deal, but not since, because I only occasionally watch dubs. And I'm told that VRV only has Funi's content dubbed. (Meaning their content that's not yet on CR)

Which means that for me, all usability factors aside, there's *less* value in the actual content on VRV, because I want to be able to watch Funi catalog shows in Japanese. (And the ones I'm interested in are coming to CR faster than I can keep up with anyway.)

@nDroae yeah, I can’t figure out why they are pushing this deal at all. Even when you throw in the other content, it’s just not that great a deal. There’s too much missing from the big two.

Crossposting this... Oddly, while I don't mind subscribing to everything, I can't seem to find any interest in subscribing to VRV. I rather say I am subscribed to CrunchyRoll. Yes, you get Funimation, but there is a ton of other unrelated stuff, and it feels like VRV is diluting the anime content. It's probably just psychological, but if I am thinking this way, I assume a lot of others are as well.

VRV is totally worth it to me - I only use CR and Funi, but even if I paid for a yearly sub for both, it would end up costing me the same as just paying for VRV monthly anyway, and the app is much better than Crunchyroll's on Roku. I can't say the same for Funimation though. Also, I can use the app on my iPad to download episodes to watch when I'm going somewhere I won't have internet.

I do have one gripe - that's the Android VRV app doesn't let you specify whether to save the videos to the SD card, and I don't have much space on my phone itself (who with Android does anyway? ) Is there any place to give this feedback to the VRV programmers? I can't find any forums on the VRV site...

In the FAQ, I found an email address:

and the help/information submission form:

I totally misread the message about using VRV for offline viewing - I didn't understand that it was possible to permanently access the CR channel in the VRV app as a CR subscriber, without ever subscribing to VRV.

I've watched six episodes offline so far, and I have had issues with subtitles. For me, on Android, it seems that I need to open the app while I'm still connected to wifi, then navigate to offline viewing. If I do that, subs play fine, though with noticeable timing delays of up to a few seconds (it varies; they catch up to speed and later slow down again). Starting that way, I can play multiple pre-downloaded episodes just fine while still offline.

If I open the app while offline, and tap the offline viewing button that automatically appears, subs don't play at all. I've tested this multiple times and my results are consistent. Despite the bug, even in its current state it's a very useful feature, once I figured out this quirk!

Is there a way to delete downloaded episodes? Or are they automatically deleted when they expire?

Go to offline viewing, then view all (or episodes, can't remember), then touch a show page, then an episode you want to delete. Touch the blue checkmark (or if expired, the down arrow), and a menu will pop up to "REMOVE" it.

Expiring will not remove it, just make it so you can choose between RENEW or REMOVE.

I don't know any way to do more than one episode at a time, though.

Edit: If I prepare the way you did, by starting the app and then going to offline viewing, then turning on airplane mode (to disconnect from wifi) my subs still do not play...

Edit2: And even if I just stay online to try to start playing anything at all "normally", it bombs me back to the main opening page without doing it, so the android app is now completely worthless to me at all, except maybe to download whatever dubs CR has placed on VRV. I haven't tried that yet.

If Crunchyroll is collecting data on this topic then here is my limited two cents: I see VRV as a waste. Total waste. Not a damn thing to watch on there. Blah blah blah nothing.

If you mean what I think you mean, you can do that now - install the VRV app, create a free VRV account, and then tap the ice cream cone icon on the Crunchyroll channel and sign into your CR premium account. Though as the above conversation with asharka shows, offline download viewing has bugs.

Also you won't have access to your CR queue, and progress there doesn't update progress here, so you'll have to keep track yourself if you alternate watching a single show on both CR and VRV.
