In a word yes. The vast majority of airline "incidents" to be read as accidents that kill the passengers, are piolet error. Just like almost all auto accidents are driver error.

Planes are mostly autonomous to begin with. A lot of the internal workings which used to require a pilot/ co pilot and an engineer. Who specifically knew what all the switches did and ment we no longer have flight engineer's. A ton of the stuff once it's in the air is automatic, and pilots are mostly their to land and make corrections a fail safe kind of.

I think it´s probably safer to let a computer pilot the plane, but it´d feel weird entrusting my life to a glorified algorithm. Would probs be cool with it after a couple of rides thoe
