This makes no sense to me why does crunchyroll have the second season of Seitokai Yakuindomo but not the first season? I got this account to watch ALL the anime that is airing that season. I feel like i have had the carpet ripped out from under me. I would also like to watch the second season of Saekano but i guess i wont be. Crunchyroll needs to get their stuff together and get more anime up there for the people who want to watch the WHOLE story.

Money.

I can watch it here, but now I have to go watch it there. So it's basically like DLC, but you don't actually own anything..... you just kinda have to pay....mmmyea

It's whoever wants the rights, well scratch that, it's whoever they want to have the rights. This isn't a bidding war anymore.

Seitoikai Yakuindomo is a weird case. The first season was never licensed anywhere in the USA. CR got the 2nd season, but has never gotten the first season, for reasons unknown, but likely having to do with either money, or censorship issues.

Saekano? Amazon has insanely deep pockets of cash and simply outbid CR (or bought of the entire studio/network, so that all anime made by that studio/network now goes exclusively to Amazon). That's not CR's fault.

Keep in mind that there's a ton of anime that never is never licensed. Seitokai Yakuindomo, which is one of the funniest anime out there, has:
Season 1, 13 episodes - not licensed.
1st OVA run-8 episodes - not licensed
Season 2, 13 episodes - licensed
2nd OVA run, 6 episodes released so far, with a 7th announced for September, 2017 - not licensed
Movie July 21, 2017- not licensed at this point, don't hold your breath

OVAs rarely get licensed these days, because they're usually bundled with special edition manga volumes, and the OVA rights are owned directly by the manga company (this might also happen with light novels as well). There's a practical aspect as well: a TV series that gets released typically will have a full season run over a 3 month season, with 10-13 episodes. This makes it easy to be packaged, and dubbed, even for a simuldub, as they know the length of time they'll be committed to the project.

With an OVA, they have to deal with a different business entity, plus they have no idea how long the OVAs might come out. OVA 7 for SK season 2 will come out almost 3 years after the end of season 2. The OVAs for season 1 took over 2 years for those 8 episodes.

I do think that the anime companies and the publishing companies are missing out on an opportunity with OVAs, as there is money being lost there.

Yes and no. Right now it's not a bidding war, it's a bidding massacre. What Amazon wants, Amazon gets.

I've moved this to the Site Support / Minor Questions forum.

As others have stated: "Licensing." There are sometimes reasons Crunchyroll has not been able to obtain a license for all seasons of a show.
