So I subscribed to CR many years back around 2012 and I unsubbed after a while because I was tired of the piss poor quality and didn't think it was worth paying when I my videos constantly stutter, drops to 240p, freezes, skips, and ends the episode before it actually ends. It was almost impossible to get through one 24 min episode smoothly without having to close the video and open it back up 20 god damn times. I recently subscribed again because of some new shows I want to watch and thinking the issues might have been resolved and to my surprise its just as bad as when I unsubbed years ago.

What I want to know is why? why after all these years do these issues still exist? I have charter and mainly use the PS4 app but I can run other apps like youtube, Netflix, Hulu, etc with none of the problems listed above. I know some people don't have too much of a problem but looking online it seems many people do so why has this not been fixed? Do the people at crunchyroll simply not care? If that's the case why should I pay for this?
I honestly want to watch anime legally but when I get much better quality from free illegal websites like kissanime(which I try my best not to use) or torrents in my opinion that is just pathetic and this site is undeserving of my money.

I have no issues with CR and Chrome. Don't have any issues with the actual speed or quality of streams either. Now, on the other hand, getting CR to load a page for a stream to begin in the first place can be slow during peak hours.

But I'm pretty sure this is the wrong forum for this one(?).

While I agree its piss poor quality I'm not having the same issues as you, though I am running it on Linux. I mainly get problems with the website being overwhelmed.

I don't mind the occasional freezing somewhere in the video, or the stops playing at a certain timestamp, unless you click a few seconds afterwards, etc.

What I'm more annoyed about is when there's just that Error page with something about a team of shinobis fixing it, or when the episode's page loads up, but the video player never does load (as in, there's the space for where the video player should be, but its just a blank square)

I may try using chrome or firefox on my PC the next time I watch something. Maybe its just the PS4 app that sucks balls, I doubt its my internet.

CR is punching way above it's weight. 1 million paid subscribers, probably around 10-15 million hammering away at the servers weekly. Host a lot of videos they have to buy the rights for.

They get $84 million a year from subscribers, who knows how much they get from advertisers. Subtract from that payroll etc., lawyer fees, taxes and licensing fees and you probably don't have a whole lot to spend on servers. They aren't Netflix or Hulu, they sure as hell ain't Google.

Personally I think CR should start selling videos, if it's the newest one with a reasonable price I'll pay for it. I'd feel bad for my wallet though

Well, that settles it. If you haven't had a problem, no one else has either.

Oh, wait...

(snip)

I don't recommend going to websites with pirated content. But with that said, they don't demand that you keep your credit card number on file at all times, refuse to fix piss-poor security, refuse to admit it could be anything other than someone else's fault, and refuse to create a subscription-only option so that someone (who they've allowed to lock you out of your account) can't run up store charges while you hope CR responds (at all, let alone in under a week).

I can certainly understand why people are upset when they pay good money and get so many technical issues. The CR Android app is going through a real problem at the moment where lots of people are having the audio jump back 2-15 seconds and the picture freezes, it's driving people crazy. It'd be nice if they would just throttle non-paying users during peak times to guarantee paying users better access, or at least let us download episodes to our devices (where possible) to sidestep streaming congestion completely. Netflix is doing it, Amazon is doing it, why can't CR?

They do now. On steam you can buy the CR subs.Once bought, they never expire! Forever yours to keep. =) (the selection is small right now though)

I haven't had problems with the apps, but the website itself I can't watch anything off of it. In the forums, news section the site lags so bad and when I try to go to watch videos, no go. Which is why I love the Win 10 app.. =w= after I updated my internet speeds, I haven't had any problems with any of the apps.
