Ugh, seriously? Article only mentions her and the kid watching.

Wow. That's awful. I feel bad for both of them, but for crying out loud, how can you be that stupid? You should never point a gun at, much less shoot, anything that you want to live. Still, it's sad that someone ended up dead over a youtube video.

Says the girlfriend used a 50. cal handgun, and that she shot another book before (and apparently, said bullet did not go through) , but what I find odd, a 50. cal goes through most things. Perhaps she shot the other book with a different handgun, or she just had sheer luck and rare chance of said bullet not going through. Or maybe I'm just overthinking this. Either way, it's said someone had to die because of stupidity.

The boyfriend was the one who shot a different book that he says stopped a bullet. He used that as an example to convince the girl to do the prank with him. And I agree it was stupid. It was dangerous no matter what and they still did it. I feel bad for them but still... they could have just not done it. And for views.

Holy shit 30 people? I feel like even the 3 year old was thinking "This looks pretty dumb."

exactly my fault - and honestly I am not sad. Helped the species by taking themselves out of it. If you are this stupid I am not going to feel sorry for your own stupidity damaging you. Responsible for yourself goes this far. Hope they didn't reproduce.

The thing that bothers me the most about it...is that the dude had about 30 people watching...

Like comon. Everyone and their mother who knows anything about guns (especially in that community), should know that 1' away with a .50 cal is NOT going to be stopped by a book. Why the hell didn't anyone stop them?!

And now, with generic head-shaking comment on Why It's All Society's Fault nowadays, a grumpy old (experienced) man:

The whole YouTube Prank culture is trying to fight off a general fatalistic sense that if you spend your formative years as an unachieving teen, you're going to grow up to be an unachieving adult with a low-rent wife-and-kids.
So, better to show those teen years going out in a blaze of glory Epic-Failing on YouTube--or "pranking" your anger frustrations on Society in General to try and shock them for being responsible grownups--than living for anything actually four or five years from now.
Better to be a Famous Idiot, than an idiot who isn't famous.

And the problem with trying to up your own ante, is that if you never get out of your "I'm immortal!" teen years, you'll discover why not everyone survives being a proud, fatalistic, "outrageous" idiot.

(And yes, as any riot policeman will tell you, even Kevlar will crack a few ribs, assuming it actually stops a Magnum bullet at close range.)

I haven't found anything that says there was a crowd so I'm not sure where Amyas got that. Everything says it was them, the kids and the aunt who did try to stop him but he persisted with his stupidity regardless.

That makes sense, I mean if that many people were watching at least one of them would have had a brain.
