Death Note 2017 going to be released as a movie, and is going to be released: August 25.

What do you guys think about this, a anime turn into a movie?

Most anime that get turned into American movies turn out horrible (especially ones like Dragon Ball Evolution). I just hope the movie won't be screwed up too much. Though I will admit, I don't like the casting very much.

There was already a movie done in japan. In fact there were 3-4 depending if you count the last one. I would be interested in seeing how the concept would turn out with a better funded project.

Three of them, in fact, and they'd never seen Denzel Washington cop-thrillers before casting L.

I'm interested to see how it turns out, since Netflix tends to do a good job with their shows. But I'm hesitant also...Most live-action adaptations don't live up to the original.

I'm hopeful that they won't mess up Ryuk too much, because he's my favorite character!

It looks awkward, but not for the reasons most other people are pointing out.

Alot of people are getting salty about L being black. (Keep in mind this IS an American adaptation, and y'all mfers should know by now Asians usually don't get lead roles... It's annoying but it's the truth. Also Misa & Light are white but no criticisms on that as much as L, not that color matters anyway.) The guy playing him is a good actor and has played other roles of REALLY weird characters... See his character from Get Out. As long as he gets the demeanor down I'm cool. Although, I don't like how they have him talking in front of a bunch of people in person. he should be behind a computer screen like in the anime. I also wanna see him hold a phone like he does in the anime lol.

Ryuk is gonna be fantastic, Willem Dafoe looks scary IRL anyway lol, and his voice is naturally malicious and I LOVE it.

Light looks like an awkward, emo school shooter, not an "attractive" straight A student.

Idek if that chick he's with is Misa, and if it is then huh? I want my hot gothic blonde airhead Misa!

All in all those are some legitimate criticisms. The color and ethnicity shit doesn't matter. If the characters aren't portrayed properly then that's the problem. Ethnicity and color do not affect acting ability. The weeb community has proven once again that many of them are ignorant, and plain out immature.

I do want it to be good, but the trailer points to a meh movie. But we do still have the anime series, so it's not the end of the world.

We shall see guys... We shall see...

Yeah right, people on the IMDB boards were very vocal about it. That was the place to go to hear about the discussions until IMDB removed all traces of their message board history.

This movie was white washed with pretty lame star power... There was absolutely no reason to turn their backs on the culture that gave birth to this story! The fact Hollywood can't embrace the Asian American community just tears me up inside...

If you want to see a genuine attempt at telling this story, some fans redid a short version

Wish they could have done a feature like the Akira fans, but Asian American actors need all the help they can get right now!
