Another decent episode. Meet Lilina and her fascination of love. Anyways looking at the episode preview it does seem like were getting the .5 chapters animated which is good. Looking forward to next week.

Lilina seems like a pretty nice girl, though with her twintails, I expected her to be tsundere .

I would assume a hidden love triangle forming, but I could also see it as the original pair learning to appreciate and eventually love their assigned partners? Perhaps I'm being naively optimistic - I'll settle for some raunchy drama.

Episode 2

So Yukari meets Ririna, and the feeling is mutual when it comes to not wanting to marry each other. But despite that, Ririna seems to be a nice girl who is socially withdrawn because she had a condition that led her to a long hospitalization, and as such she lacks friends. That was great to see them at least getting along as friends even if Ririna has some attitude problems, and she made one in Misaki seeing that Misaki is more willing to speak her mind with Ririna than with Yukari. Now that those three know each other well, it will be interesting to see where love leads these three next as this is a government-induced love triangle that wouldn't exist had it not been for that arranged marriage law.

Episode 2

This episode Yukari meets his marriage partner and things don't go well as she gets mad at him for not even trying to talk to her. Later he apologizes and tells her the reason is cause he's thinking about the girl he likes. Lilian interested in romantic stuff agrees to help him out wth finding out Misaki's true feelings. She eventually meets Misaki when she happens to walk in front of her school and talks about what Misaki likes about Yukari. The chitchat between the girls was funny to see and Lilina even made her first friend.

I'm actually really liking Lilina though I could have done without the stupid falling on her, shirt being unbuttoned, "forgetting" to put on her skirt stuff. Maybe one of those things or something similar as an icebreaker but 3 times in one episode is just beyond dumb. This episode has me even more curious on just where they are going to go with this story. As I said before, a love triangle would feel stupid to me but they are potentially pushing one regardless, yet the relationship and Lilina's personality make it seem like it could be something more/different.

I may end up hating this one by the end of it depending on the choices they make, but I'm pretty sure they've got me hooked.

My impression so far is that it is well done. The premise requires you to make a serious suspension of disbelief and believe that a government can get away with such a draconian law that would only be possible in a 1984 like scenario.

But that is the magic of fantasy. I mean, in anime we've been treated to pretty absurd premises before. Giant Robots, outer space monsters, and magical girls being the least bothersome.

Granted, there is a major visceral reaction that I have to what I would consider a horrible tyranny. I do know that at the same time I must be willing to transition my understanding of this anime into a thought experiment. If I can do that I can at least say that if given the kind of premise, It would seem as if the author is making a significant point about love having to be also about freedom. If the author doesn't put the two beginning characters together in the end I would be all ready to regard the story as terrible.

It does present a new take on the tragic romance, Romeo and Juliet trope by adding in a totalitarian state flavor. So that premise is very similar. I'd say that if you can't handle Romeo and Juliet, on its base premise of romantic tragedy, than don't watch. If that kind of intense and emotionally delivered melodrama turns you off, than the show is not for you.

I don't know how the story is going to progress. So I will withhold judgement based on what kind of ending I see.

Episode 3

Yukari and Misaki come over to Ririna's apartment to spend some time together that's meant to get everybody's romantic feelings straight. Just when Yukari and Misaki were about to kiss, Yukari chickened out at the last second. And then Yukari runs into his best friend Nisaka while also being told by Ririna to kiss Misaki everyday. They do just that at school, while Nisaka notices. At the end of the day, Yukari is sleeping and he wanted to ask Nisaka if he has his sights set on any of the girls in class, and he doesn't give a straight answer. That was nice to see those three getting together like that, but of course when romance is involved, things are bound to get ugly.

When they introduced the concept of the show, I completely overlooked what would potentially happen to a person who was not straight. I mean if they are assigning spouses to people because of declining birth rates then they are obviously not going to consider sexual preferences that don't produce babies.

On a related note, I kind of saw that ending coming; at least I saw it coming after episode 2. The part that I found interesting was how things were phrased at the end.

Also to answer some questions that some people may have.

I didn't think this would come up so soon, and I was pondering early on about it but forgot, but you just know it when the moment comes. Though it's not my thing, I think it should have gotten a bit of a longer, more closer moment than was presented.

So, I would assume now we know what Nisaka is like and why Misaki and him seem to glare daggers, that the reason is that they are paired (I suppose the OP hints this).

Not sure how much more awkward cuck-the-anime will get (asking another girl to kiss your boyfriend lol), but I hope a lot, for my delight

Yeah, that's something I was thinking about pretty much as soon as I read the concept for the series. If you're straight it would/could suck but it wouldn't necessarily be the end of the world. If you're not straight, though, it would be absolutely awful on pretty much every level. I kind of had that vibe about Nisaka from the beginning (and this episode sort of implies that Lilina may not necessarily be entirely straight either).

And I don't think you're wrong about at least some of the Spoilered stuff. Whatever exactly it turns out to be or whatever it means, that stuff from the first episode is going to come back to haunt everyone sooner or later.

Either way, this show really is going very strong. It's turning out to be a pretty strong season and yet this show is still managing to be one of the early front runners.

The way those two were glaring at each other I was expecting them to drop everything in their person and start trading blows. Cause that was not a regular glare that was a step below the Mikasa death glare.

Curious how things work when two persons paired by the system despise each other to death.
