I'll buy lottery tickets once in a while (when the winning number got media coverage) but the most i won from those $1-$2 tickets was $2

Gambling is dangerously addictive....

There's a new series that just came out
https://myanimelist.net/anime/34933/Kakegurui

If you like this series i would recommend Kaiji

lol i'll have to check it out.

Yes, yes i do. And you're absolutley right, it is addictive and dangerous.
Iam not a problem gambler but i do waste a bit of $ and i do gamble regulary(lately). I've been through a couple of phases where i gambled with higher stakes than i currently do.
I've known problem gamblers and its a real put off.

I am in a lotto syndicate at work. That's just $10 a week. I like to put small bets down on the football every weekend. I usually only put down small bets like $5-$10. Or $20-$25 max but i have put bigger ones down. And sometimes i will put down 2 or 3 bets instead of just one.
I have been buying scratchie tickets every weekend lately. Usually spend $5-$20 a week on that.
Lately i've played some on line pokie machines a few times. Thats very dangerous if you have a creidt card , i mean you can play them in your home, dont even need to go to the pub or casino.
But i have control.

Really i go through phases where i gamble alot, phases where i do just a bit here and there and phases where i dont at all.
I haven't gone to the casino in a long time, i haven't played the pokies in a pub for a long time.
Haven't bought my own lotto ticket in a long time.

It is oddly addictive. The thrill. But gambling is shit if you do it often. Because you lose more often than you win, when you lose it's often hard to accept your losses and to not end up chasing them. Also when you win its hard to be satisfied and not be greedy. Often you win so you think you can win more or win again so you end up giving your winnings back.

I've never had much luck though. Biggest win i've ever had on a lotto ticket is about $80 and once or twice $100 in the syndicate, biggest win on a scratchie ticket is $50, i have won some decent wins on the football but nothing massive. Biggest win on a pokie machine was $1500. That was cool.

But if you were to add it all up i would be well down.

It's fine and fun and nothing wrong with it if you only do it every so often or actaully take your winnings and dont chase your losses.
Buying a lotto or scratchie ticket every week is fine. It's not like you're gonna be broke for the rest of the week after that or not be able to pay your bills and rent lol.

Kaiji is a great show.

And yes like MrAnime I too go through periods of time where I don't feel the urge to gamble at all. Sometimes I gamble more than usual and at higher stakes, and other times I am satisfied placing small bets here and there. And the fucked up part is that gambling directly affects the reward center of the brain (Nucleus Accumbens). It causes it to release dopamine when you win, but you get the biggest rush from the expectation of winning. So when people win they are rewarded with dopamine which reinforces the behavior. But when they lose and "chase" the winnings it's partially because the brain associates that experience with an even greater rush, thus making the prospect of chasing the winnings all that more appealing.

I know that genetics also plays a factor in whether someone is likely to develop a gambling problem.

Sure spent $20 two times on slot machines and won $100-150 each time.

I gamble when i have extra money so not regularly but most of the time i win :)

I have gotten to $250 and lost $100 once haha.
Gambling is really fun i enjoy it and would do it more if i had the moeny to throw away.
Gambling isn't fun if it's skill based the more luck based it is the more fun it is.
Problem is gambling has a bad rap because people play it to WIN MONEY no no no no you don't do that gambling is a form of entertainment you are spending your money for the FUN not what you may win.

Everything in life is a risky gamble, some are just more riskier than others.

Talking about the wins I've played poker starting with 100$ and walked away with 1000$ for the night so not too shabby. Though nobody will tell you about their losses ahahaha.

Yep it's almost like you get addicted to losing.

Yeah the only way to come out on top overall is to not do it regulary. And good point. That's how i felt the other night i blew some cash playing on line pokies and at the end of the day i paid money to play and get a few hours out of it. Wasn't worth the money but yeah, if you play to win and only to win you wont get what you paid for all that often, and even though you never think of it as "iam gonna gamble just for fun" , deep down we all do it to win, but it's still a good point you make. It's a form of entertainment. It is fun. But it can be very costly.

So true! i've know some people who are notorious for only ever talking about what they won and never or rarely mentionng their losses.
And the classic "iam ahead overall" yeah right...
Or when people put in $200 and walk out with $300 and say they won $300.

I can admit my losses. I put in $200 and lost it all many times. Back when i was earning way more cash and my living expenses were fuck all.

Very true everyone plays to win, but don't expect it.

If you view a couple hours of playing poker or something else as entertainment that you are paying for that can possibly make you money. Then you can view a loss as not "a waste of my money" since you paid for the experience/rush, but do not end up with anything tangible to show for the money spent. And on the days you win you paid for the experience again, and this time you ended up getting paid.

If you can walk away lol! Many times I have "made" a bunch of money only to think well I just made X amount. I can make X more and then end up losing it all.

The trick is being under control and only gambling what you can afford to part ways with, and learning to walk away/not chase losses.

Yep I've won then took my money and stayed there drinking, not left. Then put it back in.
Or i've won, took my money and left only to go back during the week or the following weekend and give it back...
On line pokies same deal, win, cash out, then deposit $ back in again few days or weeks later.

But there has been times i won and put the money n the bank or paid off something or bought something. Or just drank and shouted people lol
