So are you a do-it-yourself person? Meaning you decorate and build things around your house BY YOURSELF!!!

Bonus Questions:

1. Would like a house that's fixer-upper or brand new?

2. Are you into gardening and landscaping?

3. Do you new and modern or old and traditional?

What do you think?

I bought my house 3 years ago, it has some original components from 1920. It was renovated in 2007. It was move in ready. There are things that need to be fixed that I can do myself---I can't fathom paying for something I can do myself, I know my own limits as well--there are things I will need to hire a professional for. I do my own gardening and landscaping. I do my own interior painting. I built my own outdoor fireplace. I re-purposed a coffee table into a bench. My desk is handmade. Furniture is expensive! I also buy unfinished furniture which is less expensive and sand/stain it myself. I like simple, no clutter. I have things in my home that I feel are functional or beautiful.

My house wasn't a fixer-upper, but the home inspectors missed a lot of things (What the hell did I pay them for?), so I've been having to do a lot more work on it than I expected.

I'm decent with basic plumbing, masonry, electrical work and carpentry, but I work full time and have to deal with kids besides. It's been a struggle to find the time and energy to work on a lot of my home projects. The larger projects I've been having to hire contractors, while the smaller ones I've been trying to tackle myself to save money - because contractors are bloodthirsty sharks.

I actually made a trip to Home Depot this morning for supplies for one of my projects. I'm hoping to get it done tomorrow morning if the weather feels like cooperating for working with concrete.

Home Depot: It wins by virtue of proximity. The nearest Lowes is about an 80 mile drive. The nearest Home Depot is about 10.

Honestly I'd like it if a Lowes were closer so I could comparison shop easily and perhaps get better variety and deals. The stores only stock so many faucets, for example, so if you don't like what they've got you need to shop online - which is fine unless it's an emergency job because your sink is currently doing an impression of Niagara Falls.
