If a time machine did exist then they should've already appeared by now. Even if there were other timelines that they can travel to. There should've been an infinite amount of timelines that a time machine should've appeared.

Which means that there are also timelines where time machines never show up. It doesn't mean they're impossible, they just never actually come into the timeline.

Maybe the future people understand that if they interact with people of the present, it can alter the course of history and therefore have developed invisibility devices to remain hidden from us.

invisibility device is sort of real, and used by the military to make stealth operations / hide from enemies. maybe not harry potter tier invisibility...but close enough?

as for altering the course of history, just visiting the "past" by itself is enough to alter history...not that we'd notice such a change, anyway.
