Sounds like it is coming out of his ass, but I wouldn't know because I do not frequent ANN.

this comment is pretty funny --especially the 2nd half of the sentence. It looks to me it's a common thing for you :? "coming out of the ass"

ANN mods will participate in the discussion more frequent than the mods here at Crunchyroll. I don't know if you can still find these threads or not in their forums, but it was a thread about supporting the authors by buying NEW. Some users stated that they would rather rent/borrow/buy used instead of buying new due to their budget or being college students. The discussion turned into USED vs NEW and that was all it took. The mods was called and the whole drama started.

There's a saying " one man's trash is another man's treasure" -- so do check the comments section of their review articles for various anime movies/series. These guys can't take criticism well If they gave a series a good review and you think otherwise...

Mention the words " SJWs and feminists" in some threads like censorship in anime and they will edit your post and leave you a nice note in its place

Long story short, it's a place filled with easily triggered people and their house-sitters. Did you know that the mods there will also edit people's comments and put like "a troll's rant" or something similar in its place? They will harass or mock the people who don't have the same view as them pretty much.

It's best to experience it yourself. Just find some sensitive topics or comments and reply them and see. It's more clear when you don't have the same view as them.

These people were the ones who used fansubs from Crunchyroll website back then for their reviews while bashing fansubs as being illegal at the same time. Their morals and ethics are questionable imo.

there's a long thread about the things you mentioned on Crunchyroll
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-928675/anime-news-network-censors-criticism-of-social-justice-warriors-attacking-anime-gaming-and-otaku-culture?pg=0

Another user included the link above reading through the post i guess it is confirmed. Is this a surprise to frequent posters of the site ? eh...

So they make fun of people who aren't complying with the forum rules? I don't see anything wrong with that.

It's all in how you represent an issue.

My name is AnimeaddictANN69 after all I came from there. I was one of the many users they harassed.

buying new and censorship in anime threads -- I can't remember the exact titles but those were the few threads i posted in. I was the one who suggested that users who can't buy NEW to borrow and request those new manga/anime from the local library

There was a thread posted by a user about ads on their site-- i posted a comment telling him/her to use adblock plus or ublock origin and they deleted my post I agree that these guys don't take criticism well either. You should check out the threads where a mod insulting back and forth with a forum user over character!! Actually, they deleted a lot of stuff without notice so i don't know if you can find those posts/threads anymore I wish i took screenshots back then!!

They got where they are now because they allowed authoritarian type of modding on their site for years. I guess some punks got tired of it and decided to wreak havoc in return.

Do not under estimate the freaks of the internet-- they have plenty of time on their hands. I don't visit the site that often anymore (5-6 months now). I talk mostly about off topic and gaming stuff now a day. not much about anime.

so not agreeing on "buying new" is against the forum rules ? "speaking against censorship" is against the rules ? or as the person below mentioned- just mentioning about some ablocker will get your posts deleted ?

i don't know what other rules they added over the weeks/months of 2017.

The issue isn't what you say, but how you say it.

dulun18

Yes, giving advice on circumventing the primary source of revenue for ANN is going to get you into trouble. I wouldn't expect otherwise.

The interesting thing is multiple users complained in the same thread about getting various pop ups from the ads

Myanimelist also has ads - no problem there with using adblocker or discussing about them or here either
https://myanimelist.net/

we are not the only one

the way they run things over there and their outdated forums got them where they are -- it's no surprise to people who hang around there long enough -- of course in the mind of their worshipers -- "they can do no wrong" mentality will kick in since i guess suggesting users who can't afford to buy new to borrow from the library is also against the forum rules ?

I think my account is still active on their site. I'll log in after they got the site back up again. In the mean while, There's always myanimelist for anime/manga news (also crunchyroll)

I remember reading something about that-- that was you ? The discussion turned from "buying NEW" to "Used vs New" -- to must buy new houses, new cars, new textbooks, etc.. to show your support

Even some of the discussion threads about on going anime series can get heated pretty quickly but what do you expected from people can't take criticism well and yet very opinionated over every little thing.

anyway, according to this site, they are down for 2 days and 14 hours
http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/animenewsnetwork.com.html

this site shows proof that the site was hacked - the domain and contact info are messed up
https://www.whois.com/whois/animenewsnetwork.com

while crunchyroll is ok at the moment.
https://www.whois.com/whois/crunchyroll.com

I think it's time for them to update their website to prevent future attacks like this --if they are not going to change the way they govern the site.. at least update the forum/site 2005 forum in 2017 ?

According to the latest update they got the @anime account back, but lost all followers.

Update: we've restored our @anime Twitter account but lost the account's followers - if you were following us before, you'll want to hit that button again.

It was a song by Ruben Slikk called "like a N*****". For me it's still playing when I go there, havent listened through to see if there are other songs though.

It was pretty obvious something happened yesterday. At least there's a mirror (I guess that's what you'd call it?) up now so that I can get caught up. I don't use their forums. They never really clicked with me, but I do read the news on there so at least that's back up.

I don't remember the exact context but I remember disagreeing with one of the staff on an article they wrote a few years ago and it didn't sit well with them. I was very nice about it and presented my points but that wasn't good enough. They jumped on me in the forums as did some other staff/mods at the time. Then their followers who like everything they do joined in so I just left at that point.

I had to stop going to ANN on my phone. Anytime I would go there and click on an article a pop up ad would pop up and make a very loud noise. There was no way to close it or do anything to it. I would have to take my battery out just to turn my phone off.

Also don't forget about how they handled reviews. They had Zac review it who is known to publicly hate She, The Ultimate Weapon. He's talked about hating it in Podcasts and on the forums. So why when it's time to review it again because it was being release again do you give it to the guy who hates it? Why not someone who hasn't seen it?

ANN's article on Funimation being sold to Sony seems to be in full support of the buyout. In my opinion This is the worst thing that could happen. Sony is a big offender in the anime community. When I mention this on the ANN forums? I ended up getting harassed hard. it sucked.
