i don't record it twice. what i do is record it once make a copy pan it left to right 50% and eq one of them to give it a different tone so it sounds stereo. lol

Yes that is the right way. It's called double tracking. Some people quad track, which is god damn ridiculous. Four tracks, one panned 100 and another panned around 75 I think. But yeah. Two tracks 100% panned will give you that big sound.
