The third game in the series will be finally be coming out as a ps4 exculsive. The release date in Japan has been set on September 28th, 2017. No idea when the English localization will be out, but hopefully it will be here before too long.

For those of you who are already familiar with the story, some important story points.

- Since the end of the second game, the Empire has apparently continued to expand. With the noble faction largely out of the way, Chancellor Osborne's expansionist policies are largely unopposed. Only a few months after the occupation of Crossbell, Erebonia also annexed North Ambria.

- Things don't seem to be going well for Olivert's "third way" movement. Olivert appears to have lost his position of Chairman of the Board at Thors, and the Vanders have been stripped of their position of bodyguards for the Imperial family. Oliver's last act was to apparently establish a Thors Academy branch in Western Erebonia, near the town of Reeves.

- Rean remains the main character. The rest of Class VII will still make appearances, but will likely have less prominent roles. Instead, Rean has become a teacher at the new Thors branch, and the main party will largely consist of his students.

- There's a bunch of returning characters. Most notably:

The headmaster of this branch academy is none other then Aurelia Le Guin, you some of you might remember as the Noble Faction General who studied both the Arseid and Vander styles of swordsmanship.

Altina Orion, Millium's less emotional counterpart is going to be one of Rean's students, apparently under orders to keep an eye on him and Aurelia.

Professor Schmit is apparently on the new branch's staff as well, as a special advisor. However, Trails in the Sky players will most likely be more interested in his new apprentice and her companion.

Towa Hershel, the incredibly huggable Student Council President from the previous Cold Steel games will also be on the staff.

A couple number of characters from the Crossbell games are also on the branch academy's staff, namely Tio Plato and Randy Orlando. Though admittedly, it's somewhat difficult to get hyped about that when the games haven't been translated yet.

Of course, it doesn't look like Olivert will be taking his decline laying down. We've seen screenshots in his Leham disguise, so perhaps he'll be taking on a more physical role in this game. Unfortunately, I'm having a lot of trouble finding a relevant screenshot now. :(

And of course, Ouroboros remains an active force. They'll likely come into conflict with Chancellor Osborne, in an attempt to regain control of the Phantom Blaze plan.

The first game was ported onto PC, and made available on Steam not too long ago. I suggest getting the port if you decide to get it. The original version had a lot of random lines left unvoiced, which was subsequently corrected in the port.

Alternatively, you may want to start with the Trails in the Sky series first, which takes place in the same verse, but chronologically happens a few years earlier. You don't have to though.

In other news, a new trailer for the game is up.

Great series, but extremely difficult. I quit playing then picked it up again recently. I think the reason I stopped at first was because the boss monsters were extremely OP! But I'm still playing through the first and hopefully I'll make it to the 2nd one of these days

I'm super hyped for the NA release. Hopefully the localization process doesn't take too long.

Arg, I will need to finish part 2. Very glad it sold well enough to be released on multiple platforms. Part 1 was the first game I picked up on my Vita.
