Switch Version of Planetarian Game Set for January 31 Launch in Japan

Visual novel gets single Joy-Con play and touchscreen support

According to a Nintendo eShop listing, we now know when to expect the Switch version of Planetarian: The Reverie of a Little Planet. While publisher Prototype previously had it planned for North America, Europe, and Japan this spring, the listing has it coming in a little early in Japan on January 31.

Since the game's Japanese release supports Japanese, English, French, and both Traditional and Simplified Chinese language options, hopefully that means the western releases are now lined up around the same time frame. In addition to single Joy-Con play, the Switch version of Planetarian allows for full touchscreen controls.

Planetarian's Steam page describes it as a "Kinetic Novel." What does that mean? They go into further detail:

A new form of entertainment for the sole purpose of storytelling — not a novel, not an anime, not a game — Kinetic Novel. Made with the goal of providing the reader with an unprecedented sense of presence and empathy for the characters through the use of a high-quality scenario, graphics, music, and other production values.
