Tokyo Mirage Sessions on Switch Based on Tame Western Version, Nintendo Apologizes

Nintendo has offered to cancel pre-orders for upcoming Japanese release

Tokyo Mirage Sessions

The good news is that Wii U RPG Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore is coming to Nintendo Switch. The bad news? It's based on the toned-down western version, which included less revealing outfits among other changes. The really bad? Nintendo neglected to communicate this change to Japanese fans hoping to get their hands on a Switch port of the original Japanese release.

Nintendo's reasoning is that they wanted to aim for a simultaneous worldwide release, but the way this was eventually communicated rubbed some folks the wrong way. Thus, Nintendo has issued an apology for its lack of information, which included showcasing screenshots from the original Japanese Wii U version on the official website of the Switch port.

Nintendo swapped them out for the correct screenshots on October 10, and Nintendo officially announced that the western version of the game would serve as the base for the Switch version on October 17. Due to this mix-up, Nintendo has offered pre-order cancelations for those who already purchased Tokyo Mirage Sessions via the My Nintendo Store in Japan or the eShop.

The support page will update with more information on these cancelations in the future.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore hits Nintendo Switch on January 17, 2020, and will include additional content like a new dungeon, story, Fire Emblem: Three Houses outfits, and more.
