    Gate The JSDF etc etc
I like it so far. The only thing I don't like about it is some of the characters seem to be younger then they were in the manga. Heh maybe thats just me I dunno. Each year there will be only one or two anime I find myself really enjoying and this is one.

  • das good man real good
I really like how this anime (and it's partner manga) take the stance of a government trying to not just steamroll an enemy nation and take it for their own. which politically is a really hard thing to do. It quite well delves into how hard it is to be a soldier following orders that are mostly right but you can't do everything in your power to help others.

Had high hopes for this one, until it messes up.
I was looking forward to another military-themed anime, and I found this one. Unfortunately, it's far from being as serious as I expected. The fantasy world is just stupid. Fan service is everywhere. And every battle so far has been completely one-sided. If the modern army is so powerful, why don't just head straight for the capital of the empire and "kindly" ask the king to negotiate?

    This ...

  • Been waiting for this scenario
Ever watch Lord of the Rings and wonder what if they had an modern Infantry Division show up? Thus the main premise of Gate. Take the JGSDF, plop them into a D&D fantasy world and see what happens. Oh, and the main protagonist is an dojinshi otaku who happened to be on the way to a convention when a dimensional gate opens up and out poured an invading force killing everyone in sight. The invading ...

  • Very entertaining! Just watch it!
No it doesn't have the deepest plot in the world. No it doesn't make you sit on the edge of your seat in suspense. No it doesn't make you cry like a baby, but does every anime have to? This one will make you laugh whether it be from cleverly places one liners or just how blatantly they're advertising joining the JSDF. Somehow, I just can't help but be excited for the next week's episode to come ...

Love the idea, like the show
I think this show has an amazing concept, one that I had never even considered before, instead of the other world being all giant monsters that can level countries they're medieval-ish people. The shows pacing is kind of slow, but I think it would be great for binge watching once it's all out.

one of the best anime series i've seen
like every one is saying without being too critical it feels crisp and clean i mean the comparison in power between militaries and to gauge peoples reaction to that level of fire power and yet to treat the opposition so well as to win their hearts and minds hasn't been done very often across the board i hope it goes further than 24 episodes the comedy potential is even greater with this series as ...

    Definitely Worth It.
Let me be honest: after the first episode, I did not have high hopes. A good friend recommended I watch it more, I did, and now I'm hooked. This show officially has one of my top 5 favorite scenes of all time: the "Apocalypse Now" scene. (If you don't know what I'm talking about, look up "Ride of the Valkyries" and "Helicopter"...you're in for a treat.)

Bottom Line: this show is worth your ...

    First review, or so.
Wow. All i gotta say for this BRILLIANT ANIME, is that if this keeps up, we are screwed for 2016.

Now, don't get me wrong, as soon as i heard about Gate: Thus the JSDF fought there, i was doomed.

Otaku-ish harem-bound protagonist LT. Youji Itami, or Youji Itami, at the start, is heaven bound for the Doujin festival of a lifetime... heh. little did he know, he was screwed from the get go. ...

  • easily my favorite anime of 2015.
gate constantly pokes fun at the traditional anime tropes, but has a very serious side. character development is very solid and there seems to be a very fleshed out universe supporting the story.

I'd give a synopses but its honestly much better just to watch the show and figure out how you feel about it.
