With the assassination of the emperor, and the empress imprisoned for the murder, the great empire of Euda has fallen into a state of disarray. The emperor's prime minister, and general of his troops, has ascended the throne as a tyrannical madman inspired by violence and sadism.
A year into his reign, and with many unsuccessful attempts to either overthrow or assassinate him, various groups of people began their secession from the empire. While many were slaughtered by the empire's military, a few organizations seceded successfully.
One of these organizations was an arrangement of cultists that worshipped the empress. They grew in numbers upon her imprisonment and flourished in power shortly after her beheading. When her ashes were scattered on the wind, worthy cultists were granted a boon. They found themselves able to tap in to the ancient, dormant magick of the earth, and with it, finally turn the tide on their war with the Eudian Empire. Or so they faithfully believed.
Years before the prime minister's coup d'etat, he and the emperor became enthralled with the fables of a wellspring that can emit one to godhood. Fascination turned to obsession. The emperor's court fell to disarray long before the empire, and the prime minister was behind it all.
The cultists prayed to their empress for her benevolence, unaware that she had no play in the rise of their magick. The Battle on Astraesys Plains was their doom. Up against the technology of the Empire, the empress's magick strangely turned on the cultists, eradicating them with the very power they planned to conquer Euda with.
RISEOF A GODDOM
The Battle on Astraesys Plains became infamous among commoners and noblemen alike. Magick was reverberated in the months that followed. although it returned to a dormant state when the cultists died. Rumors spread like wildfire, that it was the deceased empress who abolished her own order out of hatred for what they were becoming or for not avenging her quickly enough.
These rumors were snuffed out by the prime minister himself. It soon came to light that he, in fact, had found the wellspring, and magick was one of many of his newfound abilities. He could remake the world if he truly wanted. He was God now, and this fact alone scared the masses in to submission. Any word of rebellion fell to the shadows for the next twenty years to come...
