Railway crossings are a very common occurrence in my Anime vs. Real Life pieces. Given that they’re such a characteristic part of the urban landscape of most Japanese cities, this shouldn’t really come as a surprise. But they also tend to simply be a great tool for storytelling, especially for some of the most heart-wrenching anime out there. Whether it’s The Girl Who Leapt Through Time where the train crossing is a source of constant dread and impending demise, or a parting of ways like in 5 Centimeters per Second, they usually entail a lot of tears for the watcher. And the same goes for Your Lie in April, which still stands up there as one of the most heartbreaking shows of recent years. And as you can imagine, the railway crossing from that final revelatory moment exists in real life. So, in this installment, let’s check out some more of the key real-world locations of Your Lie in April!

But first things first, as already mentioned in my first post about Your Lie in April, the majority of scenes take place in the Nerima Ward in the west of Tokyo, which is where you’ll find places such as the Nerima Culture Center where the show kicked off.

And not too far off from the music venue, close to Nerimatakanodai Station, is where you’ll find this quaint little spot along the Shakuji River.

This is the spot from the second episode when Kaori offers Kousei — better known as "Friend A" at that point — to stand in for her supposed crush Ryouta. I was there in early March of this year, which was a bit too early for the cherry blossoms, but it was still nice to see that the little tree in the middle of the picture was there in real life.

Kousei also walks past this same exact spot in the final episode while he was reading Kaori’s letter.

Only a short walk away from there was this little playground, which was located in Shakuji Park, one of the most used anime locations there is. Should you ever be in the area, it definitely pays off to pay the park a visit. Aside from all the anime locations from shows like Your Lie in April, The Devil is a Part-Timer!, The Moment You Fall in Love, and more, it’s also simply a nice park to stroll through, with two large ponds and several small shrines to visit.

And finally, what will seem like any other ordinary train crossings to most people who pass by here, is of course the train crossing from the final revelatory scene of Your Lie in April, when Kousei finishes reading Kaori’s letter.

While it may be the crossing where the viewer gets to see Kaori for the last time, it’s also the crossing where Tsubaki finally musters up the courage to finally come back into Kousei’s life.

The train crossing is located between Kami-Shakuji Station and Musashi-Seki Station along the Seibu Shinjuku Line, and as you can probably see from the images, it looks exactly like in the anime.

So should you ever find yourself having a day to spare in Tokyo (and don’t mind getting weird looks for shedding a few tears at a seemingly random train crossing), then be sure to give this special Your Lie in April location a visit!
