Tezuka's 1970 Sex-Ed Manga to Receive Special Edition Reprint

Yakeppachi's Maria will be available with never-before-seen pages for a limited time

Even with the 90th anniversary of Tezuka's birth behind us, the hits keep on coming — up next will be a special-edition re-release of the manga master's sex-ed comic, about a boy who goes to school with an inflatable doll.

Yakeppachi's Maria was first run in 1970, and centered on the relationship between a schoolboy and the female ghost born from ectoplasm shot out of his nose. The ghost, possessing an inflatable doll and taking the name "Maria," acts unladylike and a lot like Yakeppachi, much to everyone's chagrin. Throughout the story are mini-lessons on anatomy, hormones, and other such topics.

The reprint, titled the "Original Edition," will feature full-color pages, along with content not originally printed in the Weekly Shonen Champion run. There will only be a limited print run; at the time of this writing, only 57 copies remain available for sale.

Yakeppachi's Maria: Original Edition ships out to buyers next month.
