    First Impression: A Mystery?
    Episode 1 Impression:

Going in with my cynical first expectations, the main mystery was what cliche direction this would take: Harem? Yuri? Ecchi? Or just another overdone battle school? Surely those swords only cut deep enough to expose boobs and panties, amiright?

By the end of episode 1, it's none of the above. The battle school cover seems to be a decoy for a deeper story, and the ...

    Grounded Sword Combat
Coming from a bias of adoring sword combat. Toji no Miko does probably the best job of any anime I've ever seen in conveying the intricacies of strategy and skill within it's fight scenes.
Even though fantastical aspects like flash stepping are added in, you can make a logical connection of why characters take every action in battle and the subtleties of each characters fighting style. This is ...

So much more than what I expected.
    As of episode one.

I really enjoyed the first episode of this. I was going in expecting something bland and got so much more. For the run up I was expecting another generic monster fight anime but the depth that was present after the obligatory background opener was pleasantly surprising. Clean animation plus characters and plot that have vast potential is refreshing and has made me add this ...

Standard-- But that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a watch.
I'll be honest here. I've been more-so watching this to fill the time between more worthy titles of it's respective season. The plot in the first-half has been very standard, but it has been getting more complicated. The problem is I feel the writers don't know how to handle this and the pacing is all over the place and gets confusing at times.

On the positive end of things the character ...

They should have quit after the first twelve episode arc.
Most of the time when I am watching a good anime I get to around episode 12 or 13 and the anime ends with me feeling a great sadness that it ended there. This is one anime where it should have ended there. It absolutely ruined this anime for me that it continued into the twenties its episode count.

First half season of twelve episodes I would rate somewhere from a B+ to an A-, but ...

  • Underwhelming with bright spots
Overall this series left a lot to be desired in terms of characters, graphics, and plot. It often felt like this show was trying to be a supernatural fighting show, a political drama, and a coming-of-age tale all while our heroines act out some very tired magical girl stereotypes.
Busty blond half-American bimbo? Check. Soft-spoken, orderly rich girl? Check. Emotionless berserker? Check. Grumpy, ...

  • An unfolding journey
    Completely just my opinion,

I found Toji No Miko to have a really enjoyable story arc, character development often jumped in leaps and bounds and I found myself sometimes just accepting that they'd developed without much information on their development.

However! the final 5 episodes drew it together very well, the final episode, in particular, made reference to elements throughout the ...

  • Well Actioned Shoujo!
I love this anime! The animation is done very well, especially for the CGI put into the fight scenes! The plot is well done and the art for all the characters as well as the character designs are beautiful. The most satisfying thing for me was seeing the development of the characters when they join together. Overall, I really enjoyed this anime and is highly recommended!

  • A Roller Coaster of Emotions
Toji No Miko was an interesting watching experience that left me conflicted in quite a few ways.

On one hand, there were episodes especially in the first half of the series that left me confused, annoyed, angry, and in disbelief from the contradictions of plot and "babysitting" that the series felt it needed to do for viewers to understand what was going on. It was pretty off putting seeing ...
