The following is a list of main and recurring characters that have appeared within the Pokémon anime series. Since the show's inception, only the central protagonist, Ash Ketchum, and his principal antagonists - Jessie, James, and Meowth - have regularly appeared in every season. In 2006, with the beginning of the Battle Frontier season, almost all of the original voice cast was replaced in relation to the previous English-production company, 4Kids Entertainment, being dropped by The Pokémon Company.
English names are given before the Japanese names in Western order (given name before surname), when possible. All Japanese names, unless otherwise noted, are romanized from katakana.
