  • Excellent Story, Great Pacing
The summary of the "About the show" section here on Crunchyroll doesn't do full justice to what is really an amazing story. I went into it thinking I was getting myself into a bit of a romantic comedy with a touch of tragedy.

But that isn't what this is. The characters are developed incredibly well. The art style is a bit different, but it totally suits the world it's in. The story is actually ...

Trying to find a place in the world.
The storyline defines a smart guy, bad with relationships, fighting to find his place in the world.

I would say is oriented towards adult viewers or late teenagers more than young folks. Some of the topics it handles, like awkwardness and self-reclusion are recursive in many animes, but this goes deeper in the character and presents them raw, with lots of contexts and emotional meaning.

    The ...

    Good storyline, Poor graphic execution
I really enjoy the story of the show; the characters are well developed, the plot moves along at a reasonable pace, and it's relatable- which can be said of nearly any "slice of life" sub-genred anime.
The blow to it comes from the artwork. It does have that grainy look to it, and facial expressions (especially the smiles...ugh) are just horrendous. It's deliberate, but that doesn't make up for ...

Fantastic shogi-themed anime, very well done.
March comes in like a Lion is, like all the other reviews both positive and negative, undeniably unique. It floats a shogi-themed version of the otherwise saturated TEEN ANGST POWER FANTASY LINKIN PARK BYAAAAAAA crap we see so often. Instead of tropey nonsense they juxtapose characters representing important emotions necessary for a melancholy professional teenage shogi player. My only gripe is ...

The people that made this are geniuses.
It's like watching someone play competitive checkers, if the main character was an orphan with a dysfunctional foster family.

I have no idea why I always look forward to this one. Explaining the plot to a friend resulted in a blank stare. It's just absolutely well done.

The mc is not some super unbeatable genius. We watch him as he struggles with life, work, and school that all seem to ...

  • Beautifully created!
This isn't usually the type of show that I would watch but something about it caught my eye and I started to watch it. It is slow paced and it takes a while for you to get to know the main character and the secondary characters. They have captured my heart and I have fallen in love with this show. It isn't just about the shogi nor is it just about the struggles that they have gone through, and ...

    The Sisters save this.
AFTER 3 seasons, I still like the show overall. Shogi is still incomprehensible to me. Still a 4/5. Still find the sisters the most appealing part of the show.

Real life sucks. Betrayal, loss, doubt, isolation are real world things. "March comes in like a lion" centers on these thoughts and feelings. Episodes heavy in shogi are remarkably dull, drawn out, and just plain unappealing to me. ...

One of the best animes I've seen. You need to watch this!
Slice of life/coming of age with a beating heart and deep soul. March Comes in Like a Lion is truly a beautiful anime, not only in its original artwork, but in the story of hope it tells. At its heart, it's about learning to live after staggering loss through the love of friends and family. It's about finding the heart that you'd hidden away (so it wouldn't be crushed under the weight of ...

Most beautiful anime I've ever watched
I am usually into anime's that keep me at the edge of my seat (Ex. Bungo Stray Dogs, Haikyu, etc). However, I started watching this show after I would finish my classes for the day and I just wanted to relax. That it was I love about this show: its peaceful, relaxing, and beautiful.
It's by no means boring, and has an amazing storyline, plot, and keeps me wanting more. It just isn't one of those ...
