  • J-Rock Band ALI Suspends Activities After Arrest of Now-Former Drummer

    The drummer's contract with the record label has been canceled

    J-rock band ALI announced today that the band will suspend its activities until further notice due to the crimes allegedly committed by their now-former drummer Kahadio, as well as announcing that the drummer has withdrawn from the group and his contract with Sony Music has been canceled.   • Evangelion Anime Studio Khara Speaks Out Against Threats Against Latest Film's Staff

    "We have confirmed that there have been acts of slander, threats, and ... crimes against individuals," Khara said in a statement

  • Dragon Ball Z Composer Shunsuke Kikuchi Passes Away Aged 89

    Throughout his career, Kikuchi has composed some of anime's most well-known tracks

    The world has lost one of its legends. JASRAC announced today that Shunsuke Kikuchi, most well known as the composer for Dragon Ball Z and Doraemon, had passed away on April 24 at the age of 89. More details on the life of the legend after the jump.

  • ALI Drummer Kahadio Arrested Again on Charges of Defrauding Osaka Woman in Her 70s

    The band had produced singles for BEASTARS and JUJUTSU KAISEN

    TBS News reported today that the drummer from the band ALI had been re-arrested on separate charges than the ones filed against him earlier this month. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police alleges that Kahadio and his friends had committed a phone scam against an Osaka woman in her 70s. Learn more after the jump.

  • Pencils Used for Anime Creation Discontinued in Japan Due to Poor Sales

    Animators in Japan who haven't yet switched to a digital production workflow might have to speed up their transition, as the tools that have traditionally aided anime creators are soon going away forever. Mitsubishi Pencil announced that the company will be cutting all but one color of the 7700 line of pencils, the line usually used for hand-drawn animation.   • Freelance Anime Staff in Japan to Qualify for Workers' Accident Compensation Insurance Next Year

    The Ministry of Health Labour and Welfare in Japan announced today that freelancers in the "entertainment industry" and those who work in "animation production" will be able to receive workers' accident compensation insurance, a scheme usually only reserved for those who are employed by a company.
