Today, the latest One Piece statue was unveiled at the former site of the Tokai University Aso Campus, which was heavily damaged in the Kumamoto earthquake in 2016. One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda donated 800 million yen to help fund the relief efforts for his home prefecture Kumamoto after the devastating 2016 earthquake. The government decided to use that money to erect One Piece statues across the prefecture, which was the best idea because now the Luffy statue is bringing in the tourism yen for the prefecture! The Kemono Friends franchise has supported the reconstruction effort by Kumamoto City Zoological and Botanical Gardens that was damaged seriously by the Kumamoto Earthquake in April 2016.
