Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame is currently tearing up the box offices worldwide, and in May of 2020 Japanese fans will have a chance to own their little piece of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a great big 1/6 scale figure of Thanos, the ultimate villain of the MCU. Following a 2013 national audition, in 2014 music label Avex and fashion magazine CanCam launched Chubbiness, a puniko "plus-sized" label with an English name that they described to their Japanese audience as meaning a bit plump, but childishly cute. The "chubbiness" label, the "marshmallow girl" trend/label, the propensity to list the girls' height/weight ...there's a lot there that didn't entirely endear the project to western commentators. That said, Marino Saihara's cosplay is pretty cool.
For this weekend's San Diego Comic Con, figures maker/distributor Kotobukiya is preparing to present a look at art for Marvel Comics' popular comedy heroine Bishoujo Squirrel Girl, as redesigned for their Bishoujo line by Shunya Yamashita. She's joined by a look at Yamashita's take on Street Fighter's R. Mika. And, here comes with the dude!. A new Ikemen (handsome) series kicks off with DC Comics' Bat Family.
In May, Marvel Comics announced their solicitation material for their August 2015 releases. Noteworthy to fans of Japanese media, over 20 issues from the home of the Avengers and X-Men are being offered with special "manga variant covers," all of which are currently being credited to TBA (to be announced). Now a few have been revealed.
Doujin and ero-manga creator Toshirou Chiba from Celluloid Acme has a pretty evident affection for strong ladies, as seen in his doujinshi parodies of Naruto, Dragon's Crown, Dorohedoro and the like. A reader of American superhero comics, he's recently illustrated a series of mashups featuring the women in that genre, mixed up with the ship girls of KanColle. Check out the results after the jump.
In time for this weekend's Winter Wonder Festival figure event, Kotobukiya has posted Shunya Yamashita's design for their Bishoujo line figure of DC Comics' Titans heroine Raven on their English Facebook page. Along with this, fans has the event spotted the designs for the line's figure of Marvel Comics' Lady Deadpool. Get a look after the jump.
Japan's Toyko-based pop culture magazine Brutus has more information on the Attack on Titan crossover with Marvel Comics listed in its next issue preview. Issue 790, on sale November 15th will feature a "What If" comic with the Marvel's Avengers super hero team battling the Female Titan on the streets of New York. More after the jump.
