Cinema Asia Releasing has acquired the North American rights to the live-action adaptation of Smuggler, a one-volume manga that had been localized by Tokyopop. The 2011 movie brought together Katsuhito Ishii, maker of the remarkably warped comedy Funky Forest, with an equally strange story by Shohei Manabe. More after the jump.
The Toronto International Film Festival has announced that Hiroyuki Okiura's long awaited follow-up to Jin-Roh, Letter to Momo has been added to its children's programming, while the Katsuhito Ishii's adaptation of Shohei Manabe's manga Smuggler has been added to its Midnight Madness line-up. Director Katsuhito Ishii hasn't exactly strayed far from our minds of late, especially with his work on the screenplay for Takeshi Koike's Redline, which is currently blazing up what limited US theatrical screens it's been hitting.
