    Sad, haunting, tragically beautiful
When I first started watching this anime, I totally thought it was going to be this cute, little girl anime about young teenagers becoming magical girls and defeating cutesy witches in labyrinths full of butterflies. My friends warned me...and they were right.

The first few episodes are very misleading. They're very cutesy, the animation is very cutesy, the dialogue is...you catch my drift. ...

    One of it's own kind
One of the best anime I ever seen.
I admit, at first I was expecting a Sailor Moon reboot.
If you make it past episode three, you're hooked for sure.
You'll cry a bit throughout the series, especially episode twelve.
It has a very interrogating storyline, you have no idea what'll happen next, the whole series is one question itself.
Most of these reviews will say how ...

Will forever be in my Top 3 Anime
This anime goes above and beyond every other anime I've seen. It plays with your heart and mind, starting off one way and completely smacking you in the face at the end with its emotions, beauty, and story. Every character is beautifully fleshed out through the course of the series, and you develop a connection for each individual. Don't be fooled by the cover, but don't let this warning deter you ...

Suffering has never been so cute!
This show is pain incarnate. Do you enjoy suffering? Do you want to cry over animated characters on your tv screen? Do you enjoy watching selfless sacrifice and the destruction of worlds? CONGRATULATIONS! You've found your anime soul-mate!!

On the plus side: intricate and interesting plot devices, cute girls in cuter costumes, interesting animation that uses alternative styles to denote ...

    Good Character Development
The art style is unusual and sometimes used to imply events happening to or emotions of the characters. This, in addition to conversations, helps develop the characters. The music style is unusual and fits the images well. This, along with the arts, also contributes to the roundness of the characters.

The last turnarounds are a little surprising. However, the rationale behind the characters' ...

Not your average Magical Girl Anime
This Anime was probably written in response to all those people that never read their damn license agreements.

It draws you in with the cute looks, or maybe because you've heard that it's actually really dark and want to check for yourself after seeing the absolutely moe art.

The first two episodes actually deliver on the cutesy look, though you'll notice that there's already a feeling that ...

Great story, good music, good animation. What's not to love?
What's not to love? Having the characters you love be killed off quite a bit, I guess, is one. ... I was going to try to start off this review to make it sound all cheerful and cutesy and happy, like the anime itself wants you to believe, but I'll be upfront: it gets dark, and depressing. And it's entirely glorious.

Stemming from Akiyuki Shinbo's desire to direct a magical girl anime, Aniplex ...

    Excellent Series Worth Watching!
I never rate series, but this is an exception. This series was awesome and moved along at a great pace. It deals with hope and despair with a very unusual method of animation regarding the witches of the show. It caught me off guard but the twisted animation style really pulls you into the show. definitely worth the watch, I wish there were more episodes!

    An Incredible Experience
This was the show that originally got me into anime, and it really set a high standard for everything else I've been wanting to watch. The story is very compelling and always leaving you wanting for more, the character developer for each character is thoroughly fleshed out, and it has a very balanced amount of action and story progression.

What really lured me into this show initially however ...

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Cute is Pain.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica, henceforth known as Magica to save space, is a magical girl anime developed by Shaft and Aniplex. A twelve episode series written by Gen Urobuchi, it follows the life of Madoka Kaname and her friend Sayaka Miki as they discover a creature by the name of Kubai.
