Coming into this anime with no expectations outside of the usual expectations I have when starting a new shoujo anime, I was shocked to realize early on that this was one anime that did not fit any prior mold. Looking at the cover page, one would imagine your typical cute and love affair that is common with the genre, however, quite early and often will that notion be ousted by Madoka Magica. The ...

    Praise Godoka! Just WOW!
All I can say about this series is WOW It starts off innocently enough and then BAM you get put into this complex and heartfelt story that just kinda sucks you in til the end. And What an end it is! I was on the edge of my seat. You learn that being a Magical Girl isnt all fun and can be quite tragic.

    Women can be badass too
I've seen this series and read the manga's so I'm one to say that this is an amazing series. The story line is interesting and complicated but you have to be clever to understand it all. If you begin to attach to the characters than you feel all the pain they go through. The pain they feel pushes them to move forward causing you to want more. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone looking for ...

    A Surprise Five Star!
I had heard about Madoka Magica for some time before I finally watched it, of course I heard nothing, but great things about it. Like most seem to agree, the first couple episodes are a little slow and as an adult male I had to question my sexuality for a moment. FINALLY after a few episodes, *Vulgar Language* hit the fan and I was treated to a wonderful anime. All I can say is I am a sucker for a ...

    Shaft's Piece de resistance
I had to think long and hard about this just finishing the series about a couple minutes ago and wracked my brain to find faults with anything in the story. After I finished contemplating the existentialism brought up by the themes I concluded that this is the bar at which story telling needs to reach for in this medium. Visuals are typical SHAFT craziness and action scenes can let down ...

Let's just break, break, break this whole rotten world to dust.
It was once said that Neon Genesis Evangelion was to giant robot anime what Twin Peaks was to cop dramas. I think it would be appropriate to make the same comparison for Madoka Magica and the mahou shoujo genre.

Madoka Magica plays upon typical notions and stereotypes of what is good and what is evil, and lures the viewer into a slam of the cold reality of all things. Though the story is seldom ...

Magical Girls Don't Work in the Real World.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica is, by all appearances, a typical magical girl anime. Underneath the facade, however, is one of the best subversions of a genre since Alan Moore's changed how everyone thought of superheroes with the 1986 classic, Watchmen.

The story begins predictably enough. The titular Madoka, a bubbly, optimistic middle school girl, encounters a new student by the ...

    A Truly Dark anime...
And I loved every moment of it! The story is well done and you'd never expect it! It kicks up by the infamous Episode 3, truly amazing. Don't let the art fool you, this isn't your dime a dozen magical girl anime; its THE Magical Girl anime.
