"Chubyou gekihatsu-boy" ("Young disease outburst boy"), a 2015 Vocaloid song by rerulili and kagomeP about teenage boys with delusions of grandeur, is being adapted into an anime. The song has also inspired a series of light novels written by Minato Tonami and illustrated by MW and Kojimiruku that are published in Japan by Kadokawa under their Kadokawa Beans Bunko imprint. No further details about the anime adaptation have yet been released.

The story of the "Chubyou gekihatsu-boy" novels follows Mizuki Kyoji, an ordinary high school student who transfers to a new school about halfway through her high school career. After changing schools, Mizuki encounters four young men who are suffering from "chunibyou": Noda, a young man who wants to be a superhero; Takashima, a handsome young man who is also an incorrigible otaku; Nakamura, a young man who claims to be the reincarnation of an angel or a devil; and Tsukumo, a young man who claims to be a secret political power broker.
