Japan Box Office: Dragon Ball Super: Broly Earns Massive 3.3 Billion Yen in 24 Days
"Love Live! Sunshine!!" film ranks a disappointing 8th place in its opening weekend

After selling one million tickets only in six days, Toei Animation's 20th Dragon Ball film Dragon Ball Super:
Broly has earned an impressive 3,354,780,500 yen on 2,604,870 admissions in 24 days since its release
on December 14, 2018. It is almost certain that it will become the anime franchise's top-grossing film
surpassing the current record of 3.74 billion yen marked by Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F ' in 2015.
The film also started screening in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore on December 27, 2018, and in Brazil
on January 3, 2019. It ranked in top 10 in all the countries surpassing the first weekend box office record
of Resurrection 'F. Especially in Malaysia and Brazil, it broke the highest opening record for a Japanese
animation film in history.
- Thailand (December 27 release) - opening weekend ranking: 4th (US$425,670/261 screens)
- Malaysia/Brunei (December 27 release) - opening weekend ranking: 6th (US$ 232,000/105 screens)
- Singapore (December 27 release) - opening weekend ranking: 8th (US$44,000/18 screens)
- Brazil (January 3 release) - opening weekend ranking: 4th (US$1,664,182/407 screens)
The all-new feature film Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie Over the Rainbow was released in
128 theaters across Japan on January 4 and ranked a disappointing eighth place in its opening weekend.
Its box office figure has not yet been officially reported.
The franchise's first feature film Love Live! The School Idol Movie was released in 121 theaters, seven
less than Sunshine!!, and took No.1 with 400 million yen. Meanwhile, as with the first film, the Sunshine!!
film became the most popular film in Pia's first day satisfaction ranking with a very good 92.8% approval
rating.
And as expected, the live-action film adaptation of Naoshi Komi's love-comedy manga Nisekoi quickly
disappeared from the top 10, after making its ninth place debut with a poor 170 million yen.
