Vinland Saga Creator Apologizes for Drawing Denmark as Too Mountainous

It probably won't look this way in the anime

Historical manga Vinland Saga combines the fictional story of the explorer Thorfinn with actual events from the times of Vikings. But one fan on Twitter had a few notes on a recent panel — and the manga's creator had a response.

Twitter user @MyoyoShinnyo pointed out that the manga's recent depiction of Denmark is significantly more mountainous than the real place. Here's the manga's depiction of Jutland:

And here's a photograph submitted by @MyoyoShinnyo showing Møllehøj, Denmark's highest natural point at 170.8m high:

Manga creator Makoto Yukimura weighed in on his own Twitter, acknowledging his mistake and apologizing for the inaccuracy. He admits he was actually envisioning the Viking stronghold of Jomsborg (Pomerania, a coastal region to the north of Germany and Poland) when he drew the scene:

In another tweet, Yukimura added that he'd caution the storyboarders of the upcoming anime not to carry his mistake into the adaptation.

The Vinland Saga anime is due to premiere sometime this year.
