  • Heartwrenching laughter
This show is probably one of the best historical fictions to date, great drama, amazing comedy, an amazing plot, and most of all the feels are real. The animation is great, they did a splendid job, the music scores fit flawlessly in as well. The characters have great growth and personalities, just wish i had finished this series sooner, almost felt like someone giving up on rakugo and starting ...

  • A storytelling masterpiece.
A true storytelling masterpiece, one of my favorites by far. The first season lays the groundwork for the second beautifully. The fact that they don't leave out the rakugo really makes you develop a deep connection with the art form. It's almost like you're there, in the theater, with the performers. Absolutely stunning.

  • So human at times, so close to perfect
I watched this on a recommendation from a friend. First off I think it's beautifully animated. The facial expressions in particular, which is so important to storytelling. It's slow (especially the first season) but you get a depth of story that not a lot of shows go for. The story is complicated and covers so much (changing of the times, coming of age, love, etc) but is very well done.

    The ...

  • Easily one of my favs
This show has a ridiculous amount of character depth. It actually reminds me a bit of the book: "The stone angel" (Classic Canadian literature- don't watch the movie).

The premise is vastly different, but the hardened protagonist has many similarities. You get to uncover his source of emotional "wall building", the sacrifices he took, the reasons why he took them, and how it affected others. ...

  • Great! a rare treat!
Anime like this is the reason I've been watching anime and reading manga for 30 years, it has something for everyone, history for the older watchers, action, romance, art and a great story, and of course great characters. Keep up the good work Japanese writers we'll keep watching and reading!

  • Absolutely Beautiful
This is such a beautiful work of art. I started reading the manga because of the anime. I literally cried after the last two episodes. Such a beautiful story. Beautiful artwork. Beautiful characters. I can't wait for the DVD to come out. I could watch this again and again.

  • Brilliant - A Story About Storytellers That Does the Art of Storytelling Justice
For a story about storytellers, this anime does not let them and their craft down. This show takes storytelling in anime and puts it on a pedestal. Only once that aspect is firmly in place does it let everything else fall into place behind it. Any other form of theatrics seems like it's there just to complement the story, which is a departure from what a lot of anime these days tend to do. As ...

  • Rich, Insightful Characters and Story
There's a lot of depth and wisdom to this series, as well as emotional realism. The characters are wonderful people, despite their very human flaws, and they are well-realized by the artists, writers, and voice actors. On top of all that, I loved learning about the rakugo art form. I hope very much that I can see a live rakugo performance one day!

  • An Incredible Story!
Despite having absolutely no knowledge of what Rakugo was prior to starting the series--and to be honest I still don't find it particularly interesting--this anime was an amazing watch from start to finish. The animation is beautiful, and the characters are all very engaging. The story is very well crafted, and the conclusion of the series wraps everything up neatly. Highly recommended.

  • This is an absolute masterpiece.
    This is an absolute masterpiece.
From execution, story telling and technical aspects, its simply a work of art. The VA is sublime, the story and characters rich and deep. The emotion evoked, is on a level beyond what most anime achieves. This is a real drama.

The characters are deep, I found myself agonizing along with them, feeling hope as they grew, and feeling loss and joy with them.
