  • Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju
Finally a series for adult anime fans. The breath and depth of Japanese culture during the 20th century and how hard it was to carry on the centuries old traditional storytelling in the face of government censorship in the 30s, the apprenticeship system, to the new kinds of easier and free entertainment like television makes this series a must to watch for people interested in Japanese ...

  • Great series, but I have one issue
This show provided one of the most beautiful, passionate stories I have seen in awhile. The story provides real insight into the search for identity, and finding yourself in the things you love. What we see in Kiku is a man who has struggled all his life to find his true identity, and is haunted by the deaths of his best friend and his first love. Kiku is an extraordinary character that shows ...

  • One of those special anime.
This anime cater to a specific crowd and it is not for everyone It got amazing story telling and the art was pure class. The story really authentic in its arts style and storytelling. Like I said In the title its one of those special anime that you will remember but might forget the name then you come searching for it later.

  • the most unappreciated anime of last season
This is a good anime, tell the story of an art almost forgotten from the point of view of an elder performer and its new apprentice. the sensei tells the story how he got his name from his sensei. Stop right there the story is interesting good characters and nice revelations. My only complain is that spend too much time in the past giving not much time to develop the story in the now. so you will ...

  • Great change of pace anime
No magic or mecha, but still an excellent anime. To make an anime about story tellers interesting seems like a bit of a challenge but this anime pulls it off beautifully. Hope it doesn't end here, would love to see a few more seasons. Not so many characters that you get lost in a sea of faces, but just enough to get you to care about the ones that are there. You also get a bit of a glance of ...

  • Idk what can top this for anime of the year
Rakugo takes a look at a the journey of someone looking for a self realization through a passion, and in this show, it is through the medium of Rakugo. This show was amazing, its def not for everyone, but i swear around episode 5, I cried when the Bon started to get into his groove. I laughed when he laughed, and episode 12 yes i balled. All I can say is that there are few shows that make me feel ...

  • Each episode left me needing time to recover
Somehow this series, which at first I wasn't even sure what it was about and only decided to watch the first episode because I saw "based on a jousei manga" in the news blurb, became my favorite of the season and rocketed to the top of my all-time list.

Most of the first season (as of today, the day of the season finale airing, a second was just announced) focuses on Kikuhiko and his journey ...

  • What a Reprieve from Fan service anime!
This anime will be missed by many as it's not fan service with; butts, under boob, awkward kids with amazing powers but suck at social graces type. Its truly story focused, that has become one of my all time favorites, as it demonstrates actual, tangible, intellectuals beings struggle, rise, and grow from the environment around them as the cast tries to find their way through the art form of ...

  • unexpected find! (must watch!)
This isn't really the type of anime or story that I've typically enjoyed in the past. There's not magic, no mechs, no fighting, just a story about the lives of 2 story tellers and the people around them. Sounds boring? I thought so at first when I browsed the description of this show and boy, was I temped to just skip this show to find something else. I am so glad I did not! Some people may ...
