  • Fascinating characters, intriguing story!
I have to say it took me a while to finally get around to watching it but I do not regret it in the slightest!. I'm not going to get into it too much but I thoroughly enjoyed the storytelling done in the show both by the characters and by the writing. I am not normally into this style of anime but found this one to grab my attention with it's characters and pacing throughout. Would recommend for ...

  • Grounded and Beautiful
I tend to come and go with anime, but once in a while I find a reason to stay and Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju is my keeping me around this time. I am absolutely in love with this story. It's grounded and beautiful and I can't recommend it enough. If you take a chance on any new anime make sure it's this one.

  • Non Stop Dramatic Journey
This is easily one of the best drama animes Iv'e watched. It's really good because it takes you through the story of two different people and you literally get to watch them do Rakugo and watch them fail and succeed. There's also enough lightheartedness in the story to relieve the intense drama and make it a show you want to keep watching.

  • The masterpiece that is Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju
    Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju
I Started watching this with no idea what it had in stores for me. I had never heard about Rakugo, Showa, Genroku or Shinju. First of all I didn't like the first episode, wasn't until later I began to appreciate it. So don't drop it after the first episode because it is worth your time, trust me. This anime takes place over many years, with a lot of time skips. ...

  • Well worth the watch
Everything about this show is well-executed. The art, animation, score, story, editing, characterization, the list goes on and on. But of all these things, nothing stands out quite so much as the voice acting. It's a show about live storytellers and if the cast hadn't done such a stellar job embodying these performances, I don't know that the show would have succeeded at what it was trying to ...

  • Pleasantly surprised
I didn't expect to like this anime as much as I did considering its genre. I was very surprised after I had finally gotten around to watching it, and ended up finishing both seasons within 24 hours. Even if you're not usually interested in this drama, I think you'd like this anime. If you're interested in watching it, I would recommend sticking it out until at least the third episode. If you still ...

  • An all-time favorite, just an amazing beautiful show
Didn't come into this show with a knowledge base about Rakugo, and it surely isn't necessary... all you need is a bit of patience as you get introduced into the world being shown here. This is as much dramatic documentary as it is drama as it starts, but before long you'll be feeling sick with worry about the star-crosssed characters, and the Rakugo industry itself. The second season is where this ...

  • Heartwrenching laughter
This show is probably one of the best historical fictions to date, great drama, amazing comedy, an amazing plot, and most of all the feels are real. The animation is great, they did a splendid job, the music scores fit flawlessly in as well. The characters have great growth and personalities, just wish i had finished this series sooner, almost felt like someone giving up on rakugo and starting ...

  • A storytelling masterpiece.
A true storytelling masterpiece, one of my favorites by far. The first season lays the groundwork for the second beautifully. The fact that they don't leave out the rakugo really makes you develop a deep connection with the art form. It's almost like you're there, in the theater, with the performers. Absolutely stunning.

  • So human at times, so close to perfect
I watched this on a recommendation from a friend. First off I think it's beautifully animated. The facial expressions in particular, which is so important to storytelling. It's slow (especially the first season) but you get a depth of story that not a lot of shows go for. The story is complicated and covers so much (changing of the times, coming of age, love, etc) but is very well done.

    The ...
