  • #234. Trumpets fill the air, beauty is everywhere.
In a quiet Switzerland town known as Seize, there is a fortress there with five girls stationed. On the border of what seems to be a never ending no man's land, the five girls live essentially in the middle of nowhere keeping themselves busy and entertained as they await for orders against a potential war with Rome.

A slice of life anime set in a apocalyptic timeline in history, yet the town ...

    Deceiving if watched unattentively
Seriously, if you don't pay attention, you will decide that it's just a Slice-of-life with some kind of plot. You would be forgiven for thinking that too. The first 3 or so episodes kinda give off that feel. They don't seem to have anything to do with the story. It feels like a prolonged introduction.

However, if you do pay attention. There is world building from episode one and foreshadowing ...

  • One of my all time favorites
This anime might start out slow, but I absolutely love this anime. It is one of my all time favorites. My favorite episode is probably the last one, when Kana does her trumpet solo. There is some humor, some serious moments, and even some very good life lessons. The opening theme is one that I have listened to many times and still continue to enjoy.

  • Not K-On! but a very good show on it's own, well researched and inventive.
This show got a bad rap when it came out due to the character designs being reminiscent of K-On! but that is where the similarity ends, sort of. It starts out cute, but there is a lot of plot laying around if you pay attention, and a lot of work went into the art and setting. All in all it is a slow paced show that makes you smile, with an ending that picks up the pace. Just watch it, it's ...

  • Shuko is Watching You
I cannot believe I have not heard of this anime until now! Sound of the Sky illustrates the absolutely beautiful story of Kanata Sorami, a girl who loses her parents during wartime and is inspired by a Helvetian trumpeter to join the army to learn music. After being assigned to the 1121st Platoon at Clocktower Fortress in the town of Seize, Kanata quickly befriends those she meets with her honest ...

  • Give this anime a shot
I like to randomize my viewing of shows and watch obscure shows. But I am glad I gave this one a chance. It takes a little bit to get into, but is definitely worth the wait. Cute characters and silly antics. All to come together and make you swoon for them in the end. Watch this show, you won't be disappointed with this slice of life.

A dream-like experience that pulls you in
You want to watch this one. Sound of the Sky is one of those precious few series that you'll remember even years from now. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic, European-like world with a mix of early 20th Century and (apparently) late 21st Century technologies. The story centers on teen-girl soldiers living in an outpost town and their day-to-day mostly non-combat activities. The back ...

  • This gem is definitely worth your time!
    I really enjoyed this Anime.

From start, to finish, it had a way of leaving profound feelings onto you by the end of every episode. I can't believe I had never herd about this Gem until just recently. I highly recommend it to you. There are only 13 episodes, but my friend-- they are all worth your time. I assure you of that!

  • Cute, Fun, Deep and Amazingly Graceful.
This is one of my favorite anime. It has quite a spiritual theme not seen too often in anime set in a post-modern, futuristic yet small-town European setting. It's really hard to describe... but the effect is quite beautiful. The art is fantastic. The characters are silly and there are many themes throughout the short, 12 episode series. I wished it could've lasted longer but it deserves to be an ...

  • A Haibane Renmei Clone - In a Good Way!!
I loved this series. Incredible score, art, animation, and character design. Definitely felt complete. Dashes of comedy help drive this coming-of-age narrative, and really help us feel for Kanata as she discovers who she wants to be. The setting was so well-rounded with the music and lush backgrounds that I was able to easily escape to an animated world. Production spared no expense!

    As a ...
