Know humiliation, swords and sorcery pretenders
This show is incredibly good, a swords and sorcery epic that emerges from a believable slice of life scenario bridging two worlds. Hitomi, the heroine, is energetic and good-hearted, intelligent and sensible, confident. And one day she does one tarot card reading too many in finding an answer for love.

The whole thing is hand-drawn, every bit, but the battles, such as the one against the dragon ...

    Hands Down Best Isekai
This show was notoriously cut back on the initial amount of episodes the creator had planned, but it is still better than any isekai show that has come out since the show was initially on. This show continues to be one of my all-time favorite shows and I highly recommend it to everyone.

    Mecha, Fantasy and Drama
I haven't watched this since the late 90's on VHS tapes so I don't remember the finer details, but the mysticism of tarot cards makes this series stand out. Some things to know about older anime is that laws on viewership and censorship didn't really exist so you can expect mature themes and depiction of violence, so don't let the cover page fool you.

I highly recommend this. If you enjoyed a ...

  • Classic from the 90’s
This is an excellent to show to watch to see how anime has changed. Hand drawn animation, jerky motion and unusual sound effects, melodrama galore, reuse of shots and still frames to save money, no gratuitous fan service (unless you are a mecha fan) and no moe.

And yet.. it works. I can see a lot of the techniques, story lines that still resonate in modern anime. The girl transferred to ...

Most Troperriffic Anime of All Time
This show is an amazing amalgamation of 1990s Shonen and Shojo tropes. It refuses to be limited to just one, but revels in both. So we get A Shojo heroine, a shonen hero, giant robots, Cat Girls, an Ordinary High-School Student Trapped in Another World, Love Dodecahedrons, Gender Bender, and more. The show seems to deliberately throw in as many anime-related tropes as possible. What's more, it ...

It's worth watching for the music alone
    Short: see review title.
Long: Excellent if somewhat dated animation. Initially a little rough it really smooths out as things proceed. The story is a bit cliche, but then it was the one of the first so the term doesn't really apply. Actually, given its age, it's was incredible for the time and holds up extremely well. Everything was top notch (story, animation, acting, and especially, ...

  • Classic 90s Anime for EVERYONE!
Super great anime, definitely has it's cliches and moments but a solid mix of bloody mech battles, tender love triangles, global scale war and magical fantasy elements this show is a must-see for just about anyone watching it. SO GLAD to see this on Crunchyroll!!

  • Probably my favorite anime.
Truth time - I was never into mechas, so Gundam Wing never appealed to me. When I'd seen clips of this, I had never really been interested. However, one time I was relaxing and watching Toonami (I miss Toonami!) and I got to see a fair bit of this. I didn't end up getting to see it all, and was distraught. I forged forward and found it, and watched it all. I purchased it and the movies, and fell ...

  • i loved this series when i watched it 18 years ago and it holds up
i was intrigued, then a bit scared and happy that crunchyroll has picked up escaflowne. i remember loving this when i first saw it on fansubbed VHS tapes. i swooned over allen (shin-ichiro miki ftw), loved the odd mix of so many 90s tropes; mecha, fantasy, school girls with slouchy socks, catgirls, really really epic looking eyes. but my fear - would this hold up?

    i've rewatched the first 5 ...

    One of the best classics
This is hands down, one of the best romance/fantasy made anime. The character development, the artwork, the story, everything from that time is still amazing to today's standarts. Still one of the most original stories. It's made for all type of fandom.
