  • Season 1 is feels, season 2 is fun
I first watched this show out of mild curiosity; WUG was being heavily advertised for my local anime convention and I figured I should see what all the hubabub was about. By he end of the first season, I was a huge fan. I cried at the finale, fell in love with Airi (who is just like me) and felt each and every one of these girls struggle to achieve their dream. I was shaking when I met them in ...

Wake Up, Girls! : Bad Aftertaste.
Watching WUG, I must admit was kind of a burden for me. Not really into all girls series accompanied by an awful lot of CGI animation equals dread in my "calculators". Oh, wait... that's only the second season. I admit it, folks! I and only I managed to watch WUG in reverse. I first watched the second season (New Chapter) only to find out later that I missed an entire ...

Review of Wake Up, Girls! Season 1 (slight spoilers)
Wake Up, Girls took a different approach to idol anime than previously seen. Unlike the more cheery vibes of, say, Love Live! for example, WUG! portrayed a more realistic and "gritty" example of the idol industry.

A prominent example of this would be the I-1 Club. In the shots we see of the famous idol group, we see that every day, idols are being fired and replaced, overseen by a cold man who ...

  • A great show with likable characters and catchy songs!
I highly recommend this show. The animation quality took a bit of a hit in season 2 though as some episodes feature a lot of static animation or characters speaking off screen. Still, the show remains entertaining since the main focus is the characters and songs. Hopefully they make a season 3 and give it a bit more of a budget!

  • I can't wait for more!
I'm still new to anime as a medium, and I've never watched any cutesy girl friendship power stuff before, but this had me invested in the characters in a way I rarely get. I really appreciate this series, and I can't wait for more! You can tell that, as time goes on, the people who work on this anime also grow more in love with it.

    A needle in a haystack
For someone who has watched hundreds of anime shows, it often feels like I've already watched everything that's worth watching. So imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon this gem of a series, WUG. I love idol anime, especially AKB0048, and this anime did not disappoint in the slightest. I'm so thankful I decided to try watching this, and also to the creators who made not only a great series, but ...

    Kinda underrated, but worth it.
This show is interesting and the characters bring a lot to the table. Their backstories are unique and they all work so hard that you end up liking them and wanting them to succeed. The learning and growth involved in this show make it worth your time, and will make you cheer a little for Wake up, Girls.

Overall: Heartwarming and worth the watch.

  • Practically the Same as "Love Live"
"Wake Up Girls" is the story of 7 girls who audition to become members of an idol group. The plot is similar to Love Live, except that they're not trying to save a school from closing. The songs in this anime are not as good as other idol anime songs and the choreography is also not the best. That being said, it shows the more realistic side of the entertainment industry.

    A Different Viewing on Idols
Wake Up, Girls! takes a step away from happy idol shows. Aside from showing all the joys and happiness of idol work, it shows the background of the industry. It's not a warm welcome and not a place for failure. Wake Up, Girls! successfully displays this in a realistic manner. The characters are likable and some have interesting backstories. The movie is good at showing how the group ...
