A Dark Rabbit has Seven Lives is interesting, to say the least. But unfortunately it gets bogged down by it's incredible genericness. These are all characters we've seen before, and will see again. The same goes for the story. The elements that are unique to the series are not used very well, and the ecchi is really unneeded. However, I found myself gaining more and more interest as the final few episodes rolled around, but was let down by a weak ending. It felt as if the series is banking on getting a second season, and that is never guaranteed.
On the whole the characters are as generic as they get; Taito, the protective protaganist, Himea is the clingy love intrest, Haruka is the third wheel, Gekkou is the unlikeable jerk, and Mirai is the loli pikachu. They get litteraly no character development through out the series, pretty much staying exactly the same from when you first meet them, to when the series closes. Gekkou gets a little development near the end, but not enough to warrant anything. That said, they're not bad characters, everyone plays their roll well, and I can't really find a reason to hate them.
For the story, it's okay. Nothing more, nothing less. To give a short summary; Taito is a high schooler who was cursed as a child by the vampire Saitohimea, which made him her protector, and granted him the ability to die seven times. After nine years of being apart, they reconnect and most fight demons and other monsters from other worlds. It's not really that impressive, and a lot of the elements aren't explored very well. Taito's power is pretty useless, seeing as his enemies go thru his lives like 1 ply toilet paper. It doesn't help that all of the characters motivations are one dimensional. The monsters usually have cool designs, but other than that they're completely forgettable. And as a classic standby, if you can't think up a good story, through in some panty shots to cover it up. I must also go on to say that the ending is a total letdown, it doesn't resolve anything, nor dose it end in some cool battle. It's a lame speech, and that is pretty much it. It is so reliant on a second season, which may never come, that it's pretty painful.
Regardless, even though it's generic if there ever was a better representation of the word, I found myself a little entertained. It's comedy is good when it want's to be, and the animation is top notch. If you like a romance anime (that's the best genre I can think to put this in) with a splash of action and comedy, this isn't a bad title. But if your looking for something with a little more depth and a satisfying conclusion, there are other shows out there that you may want to check out.
