Battle Girls - Time Paradox

this is actually a pretty good anime. it starts a little rough and overdoes the "boastfull laughting" a little bit, but towards the end it gets good and ends well.


to the reason for my title. this is not a sci-fi even though its classified as that.


that being said don't let that deter you. it was a good anime though it started off rough. definitely a 3-4 out of 5 stars(seemed to teeter between the 2).

While I found the series having some interest, I still struggled to get into it as a whole.

Those who have watched shows like Fushigi Yugi will feel at home in this series, where a girl named Yoshino "Hideyoshi" Hide is magically transported back to Feudal Japan. The only difference is, all the cast are female (thus, Time Paradox).

You'll have your comedy, your serious moments, and even a bit of yuri fan-service is hinted at, but ultimately this is about Hideyoshi helping Nobunaga Oda attain an entire set of armor spread out over various neighboring countries.

While I would have liked to give this series more stars, I was sad I had to give it 3 instead of 3.5 (annoying rating system). The anime is a good for a one time viewing, but in the end one is left with nothing memorable to continue interest in it.

Battle Girls: Time Paradox isn't going to make you think and it's not going to make you cry. But it will probably make you laugh, and really, that's what it wants to do. Yes, sure, it's loaded with moe and every character has monsterous cleavage that almost bursts out of their extremely impractical suits of armor. But unlike many anime's that take this kind of storytelling seriously, Battle Girls does not. And that helps.

It's absolutely silly, and that's sometimes okay. Battle Girls knows what it is and does a pretty good job at being just that. It's a light hearted fantasy/sci-fi adventure starring your favourite male historical figures, now with big breasts.

Understand what you're going into, and give this show a shot. It's well worth it, if you're bored on a friday night and need something fun to watch.

So after reading the mixed reviews on this, I wasn't entirely sure whether to give this show a try or not. Luckily, I get bored easily and have nothing to do most of the time, so I decided to sit down and give it a go.

I watched all 13 episodes in one day.

Now please bear in mind that even though I'm a girl, I despise the majority of shoujo animes. The protagonist is always the same; Whiny, likes to eat, whiny, useless, whiny and they always have this horrible high pitched squeak to add to their useless and whiny personalities.

So how did I manage to sit through this anime, with a protagonist that is not unlike the one I just described? Well for me, it was hot girls in scantily dressed outfits. The storyline wasn't half bad either.

I really enjoyed the characters as well, you can't help but fall in love with Nobunaga and Akechi and heck! All of the girls! (Except for Hideyoshi... I'm sorry but she still really annoys me).

The show has a bit for everyone really. History (albeit, a little altered), Humour, Drama, Hinted-romance, and of course Action!

Some people say the show is made for the guys, which I personally think is untrue. Yeah sure there's a bit of boob bouncing, and the odd perverted scene here and there.

I think if you're a girl wanting to watch this, you either need to be gay or just don't let a little skin and show bother you.
If you're a guy watching this... Well... The only thing I can really say is, enjoy!

PS: Sat here hoping for a season 2....

Plot Summary: Modern-day middle school girl Hideyoshi is mysteriously hurled into a world resembling the warring states period of Japanese history, only this time it's inhabited only by women. This world's Oda Nobunaga is gathering the legendary Crimson Armor so she can rule the world, and for some reason needs Hideyoshi's help to do it.

The characters share the name as various historic figures in Feudal Japan, albeit their given names are spelt out in katakana.

Yoshino "Hideyoshi" Hide (日出・"ヒデヨシ"・佳乃, Hide "Hideyoshi" Yoshino?)

A ditsy schoolgirl who finds herself transported to an alternate Feudal Japan made up on women. She often brings a lot of modern ethics to this time, including finding uses for her mobile phone despite not being able to get a reception. She is made Oda's retainer after showing skill with a staff. She is nicknamed "Hideyoshi" after Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

Nobunaga Oda (織田 ノブナガ, Oda Nobunaga?)
Voiced by: Megumi Toyoguchi
A feudal lord who desires to gather pieces of a mystical armor to unite the nations. She wields a large sword and appears to be able to control flames.

Mitsuhide Akechi (明智 ミツヒデ, Akechi Mitsuhide?)
Voiced by: Eri Kitamura
Nobunaga's humble aide, who is often bemused at her acceptance of Hideyoshi's odd behaviour and appears to secretly infatuated with Oda. To this end, she is prepared to do whatever it takes to "make Nobunaga happy", which is why she is willing to acquire the Crimson Armor set on her feudal lord's behalf. Subconsequently, she is also jealous, at times, with Hide's interactions with Nobunaga. She bears a resemblance to one of Hideyoshi's classmates from her time. Her weapon of choice is kunai.

Masamune Date (伊達 マサムネ, Date Masamune?)
Voiced by: Yuka Hirata
A warrior affiliated with Nobunaga and Mitsuhide, who is secretly Hideyoshi's teacher from the present. She seems to be assisting with the hunt for the Crimson Armor. After witnessing someone disappear after appearing from a shrine, she decided to go back in time to investigate, inadvertedly bringing Hideyoshi with her.

Kenshin Uesugi (上杉 ケンシン, Uesuhi Kenshin?)
Voiced by: Mariya Ise
A feudal lord who wields a spear and utilizes lightning. She owns a section of the Crimson Armor and is friends/rivals with Shingen

Yoshimoto Imagawa (今川 ヨシモト, Imagawa Yoshimoto?)
Voiced by: Rei Mochizuki
A feudal lord whose primary weapon is a yumi. She owned the left leg of the Crimson Armor but lost it to Nobunaga in a game. She is often bored and considers Nobunaga 'fun'. In episode 7, she is revealed to be a yuri fan

Ieyasu Tokugawa (徳川 イエヤス, Tokugawa Ieyasu?)
Voiced by: Satomi Akesaka
Yoshimoto's retainer, who wields a priestess staff and magic in battle. She is a schemer who is also after the Crimson Armor and bears a resemblance to one of Hideyoshi's classmates.

Shingen Takeda (武田 シンゲン, Takeda Shingen?)
Voiced by: Sachi Kokuryu
A feudal lord who wields a large fan and seems to control wind and fire. She owns a section of the Crimson Armor and is friends/rivals with Kenshin.

Shiro (シロ?)
Voiced by: Nozomu Sasaki
A male dog which wears a feudal helmet and has the ability to talk, though he only talks around Hideyoshi. He is knowledgable about the world and time, and the fact Hideyoshi is not from it.

First Impressions

My expectations weren’t very high for this show. It looked like any other hetia anime with scantily clad women fighting each other, most likely with them shredding clothes in the process. Basically another To Love Ru, but much to my surprise there was a stunning lack of ecchi. Granted it was kinda there, but still like a 1/2 on the ecchi meter. Weird right? Anyway the show is a small tweak to an otherwise overused trope. The tweak being that the protagonist is female, so I’m not sure which demographic they are trying to appeal to. Usually with this kind of anime It’s ” Shy, weak, wimpy, annoying, slightly perverted, male protagonist gets teleported to a world full of half naked girls” like “Girls Bravo” (man I wish I could burn that anime from my mind), but with this show its “Air headed, idiotic, modern day, female protagonist gets teleported to a world full of half naked girls were there is barely any ecchi at all”. It’s like the creators can’t make up there minds about what sex they want to have watch the show. Anyway enough with that rant, lets talk about the protagonist herself.

I have no idea why I’ve gotten so cynical lately, perhaps its because I’ve been watching a lot of “Nostalgia Critic” reviews, but I’ve never seen such an idiotic lead character in all my life. OK the girl falls into some sort of spell circle thing, time travels back in time, lands in a forest, meets up with a bunch of samurai women who are defeating people who burned down a village, has no cellphone reception, and the people there have never heard of such a device, gets fed traditional Japanese food, and whats her solution to whats happening? “They must all be cosplayers!” Not even her vast amounts of moe can save her from my wraith.

( Deep breath…..) Ok I will say the Op is catchy, and aside from the protagonist the characters don’t seem all that bad. The story does have trace amounts of uniqueness to it, and I think I’ll stick around for a few more episodes and see were the series goes, but mostly the show just seems average. Not bad and not good, just average. Will it be my favorite of the season? That spot will still probably go to The World God Only Knows Season 2, but you never know.

when i looked at the pic i was thinking that it would be something like Sekirei. lots of boob bouncing shots. so far i am pleased that there has been very little. there has only been two ep. so it can always change to that, hope not.

the story is about a normal girl form 2011 that is sent into a alternate past full of women. i would think that it would be fan service just from that. the point of the talking dog is now making me think this will be one of the more under rated anime. people will not under stand at all till they have seen the show so as long as it will not go the way of sekirei i will watch it .
