  • Osamu Tezuka's Doctor Black Jack
I will start by saying that I am a huge fan of Osamu Tezuka and the characters he created, like Unico and Kimba the White Lion. I discovered Black Jack a few years ago... and I was instantly hooked!
This TV series is wonderful, and stays very true to the original manga. There are a few changes here and there, especially in the sequel series Black Jack 21, but all of it works perfectly.
    One of ...

  • Dramatic and enjoyable
In my opinion the show was a great mix that you can sit down and enjoy with someone younger, as well as someone older. Really great but not perfect, the character Black Jack easily falls in my top 10 badass protagonists, but the character of Pinoko sets off the sense of drama you get from cases. Some people may like that but I find it a bit too over the top. I would also totally recommend young ...

    He will fix everything...with surgery
If you watch this, you will believe in the power of Surgery. Yeah, the style is old-fashioned, but I got over that within five minutes. And now for a song.

Who lives in the cabin on a cliff by the sea?
Always dressed up and cool as can be
If you have a problem, you don't need to worry

  • From Memories Past - The Wonderful Doctor Black Jack
This was one of the first animé I ever watched, as a young child I didn't see very many because living in the western world about the closest we ever got to animé was Gigantor, or Battle of the Planets (a horrible port of Gatchaman), or Bots Master (What on Earth even WAS that!?)

I was treated one day to a VHS tape that my mother had found on a market stall, and it was a few episodes of Black ...

    Something missing - Something added
Much like other modern interpretations of classic manga, the new Black Jack is a bit of a mess. While Tezuka had sympathies and even admiration for radical Marxism, his stories were universal and while moral, they were Apolitical.

Not so for this PC version. Attacks on wealth, capitalism, industrialization and strong support for animal rights, environmentalism, etc are just spoon fed in the ...

    Charming but off the wall
I've always loved Black Jack and Pinoko- both the show and the comics. There's something charming and addictive about this series, and the characters are loved by many.
Having said that, I have to try not to laugh during every episode. I have been reading a lot of comments that say the medicine portion is really interesting and correct. Well... I'm here to tell you that it's not. Not even ...

  • Every thing Tezuka wanted to be....
    A awesome surgeon!

I absolutely love the concept of Black Jack and the series as a whole, but it gets cheesy and childish in some parts then again I'm guessing this was originally for children.
The series revolves around a unlicensed doctor that can perform miraculous medical procedures and also charges exorbitant fees unless you can sway his heart. Its an enjoyable series when medical ...

  • Its pretty good. Recommended for rainy days
Black jack was pretty good, but most of the time it just went episode by episode, meaning very little character development.
The stories showcase his skills aswell as his good personality as he visits different places.
He does have a traumatic past, though. Which i love.

I recommend this show for anyone who has spare time, and wants to keep bsy with a short but good show.

  • Light and Entertaining Medical Anime
I love the idea of medical dramas, but I am always frustrated by the amount of interpersonal/relationship drama in them. Black Jack turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. Due to its episodic nature, there is little character development between episodes, and the focus of the episode is on a specific case. While some of the cases do edge over into clearly fictionalized/dramatized ...
