Leiji Matsumoto is a great director/writer
My first exposure to Leji's work was Harlock Saga/Maetel Legend dual pack that was released on dvd years ago. From there I have watched pretty much everything of his I could find. Captain Harlock is an "old school" anime. Sexism is here as characters wander why a woman is in a leadership position on a ship. The artwork per se reflects the technology at the time. Good story. Heavy repetition on the songs throughout the show. Very interesting twist on aliens and the "lone wolf" fighting the bad guys while the bureaucracy of Earth sees the rogue ...
