Surprised me with how good it is
This may be one of the best slice of life "let's make a high school club!" anime that I've ever seen.

It took me a long time to dredge up the motivation to start an anime that is about a niche Japanese card game that I've never played and will never play, but this one is really about the characters first and foremost. The game in question has simple enough rules that I can easily follow ...

Needs a second season... And more Romance
Other then what I stated in the Title above^ there is nothing missing from this anime.
The art is incredible! And after watching them play their card 'sport', I to want to play it!! 10/10 for Chihayafuru.

Wow was this anime surprising! Absolutely recommend!!
I generally avoid animes that are about board games, cards, or "sports" because they generally focus so much on the games/sports that the characterization and drama are totally left out, aside from "game drama". By this, I mean that all of the "draw" of these sorts of animes is "who's going to win!?". That... gets boring after an episode or two... but this anime, was out of this world!!!
    I'd ...

Beautiful in more ways than just art.
What originally drew me to this anime was it's stunning art style, especially in it's coloring. I first came across it a Taichi x Chihaya amv. The amv didn't show any clips of the main premise of the show, the card game Karuta, so when I started it I was surprised. I thought this was going to be just another shoujo school love story, but it's more than that. The love tones of the story are very ...

    A show worthy of purchase

To think that I almost didn't watch this. I was turned off when I read it was about a card game. But something compelled me to try it, and I'm so glad I did!

Although the story is a bit predictable, it's realistic enough that you can connect to the characters, and extraordinary enough to keep things interesting.

This series is so rich in culture. If you look up karuta on YouTube,

Honestly worth the 30 minutes to check out the first episode
When I first noticed this simulcast being added, my interest was in no way piqued. I didn't like the red lettering, or the simple font used for the title in the banner, and the characters didn't look too interesting. Plus, the card at the edge of the banner reminded me of hanafuda cards and I remember trying to play a game with them before and failing miserably at grasping the point of the ...

Karuta (Hyakunin isshu), this is a quite new theme
Hyakunin-isshu which is called Karta is a quite new theme for anime, I think. So, Chihaya started hyakunin-isshu after she met Wataya? I wonder what happend to Wataya, he didn't return a greeting card of new year.

Hyakunin-isshu is called Karta in this anime. Players try to get cards which have half part of Tanka, most of them are from Kokin waka-shu, that was treated as a text book of Tanka ...

    needs one more season!
I want to by the manga if i can find it. This show is a great show to watch 3-4 episodes at a time if you do more you'll get burnt out on it. It needs another season but one thing that bothers me the most is that a lot of shows like this like to do a recap of the last half of the previous episode that takes up most of the new one. also full recaps of the season up into episode 13 or 14 i can't ...
