  • The story line is amazing, the characters are dynamic, the art is beautiful. What more could you ask for?
I remember watching the first episode a long time ago and forgetting about this anime (something about why the main guy has glasses and what is this card game).

    Big mistake.

Caught up with it the past week and it has been AMAZING. The story line, the characters, they're all so adorable and dynamic! Ahhh, Arata, how could I have dismissed you before as being boring? >_<

    An extraordinary ...

  • Feel Good at Its' Best
I watch this series when I am feeling overwhelmed and defeated (I work full time and school full time, and it can be really hard to motivate myself to keep going, some days). There's something about the ratio of success and failures that makes me feel like it's okay if I take a stumble sometimes.

Really, really wonderful series. Great characters, simple and satisfying story.

  • Mundane subject? I think not.
Like others have said, I have nothing but praise for this show. Despite my frustration at it having only two seasons (currently, I've heard rumors of a season 3), it took what I initially thought to be a rather MUNDANE subject and turned it into an addicting drama. It's mixture of shoujo/slice of life/sports (almost) genres made it all the more interesting. Love, loss, determination, and ...

  • Poetry and... sports?
I think a lot of people are hesitant about starting Chihayafuru because they're not sure what category it falls into. Is it a card game anime? A sports anime? Something else?

It's something else, and honestly, you shouldn't be too concerned with what it is, exactly, because what it is is GOOD. Chihayafuru tells its story honestly and beautifully. Characters are likable and develop to the point ...

  • Surprisingly good anime.
I didn't think think I'd like this, but I was looking for something to be my next *kind of* Your Lie in April *it's not like that...but it kinda is...but not really...* I cried practically every episode and I love how passionate Chihaya is. Note: You will not get any satisfaction from the "relationship" between the main characters just like Your Lie in April.

  • A window into Japanese culture and high school life
Another high school club drama, but a rather different to most sports team stories. I'd never heard of the 100 poems (Ogura Hyakunin Isshu, 小倉百人一首), let alone competitive karuta (Kyōgi karuta or caruta, 競技かるた), so it was interesting to learn about this small part of Japanese culture - although I'm curious what liberties the translators had to take with the poems to make some of the game strategy ...

  • Worth it, definitely give it a shot
i dont really write many reviews, and honestly i was just bored and wanted to watch a show with more than the typical 12 episode season, so the 50 episodes i really liked.

but after completing the shows current 2 seasons, it completely surpassed any and all expectations, I apparently actually watched episode 1 a long time ago and never went through with watching the rest, but kind of glad I ...

  • I was smiling like 95% of the time!
It's been a while since I've written a review but Chihayafuru is really something else! From the beginning to the end of season 2, I was literally either on the edge of my seat, or just smiling the entire time! It was so good! At first, when Karuta was first introduced, it didn't really hit my comfort zone, but the story and the characters really took me by storm. Now you could even say that I ...

  • Chihaya! Chihaya! Totally unexpected
After watching season one my hopes for this show were not very high, because I figured like most anime's by the time season 2 gets around the story line changes up too much or the characters loose their it factor....but for me Chihayafuru 2 is just as amazing as season 1 was if not better, you get to see how much she has grown as a person and a karuta player. The pace of each characters growth ...

  • More than just a card game
This anime description will seem weak as it says it is about a card game. As you go on, it's not just a card game you bunch in with other card games such as Rummy, Poker, Yu-Gi-Oh. Karuta is in it's own class of card games. I don't exaggerate that. As you go on, this anime is in it's own class. It is a very lovable and enjoyable anime. There is character development. Emotions such as intensity is ...
