  • Wow, I never thought I'd like an anime about playing a card game.
But this show is fantastic. The character development is something that is just not there in other shows. The animation is simple but gets the job done. The music is actually very good orchestral music so that really melds in well with the at times sweet and dramatic story. Give this one a watch people!

    An Impassionate Anime
Chihayafuru follows the story of a girl named Chihaya Ayase who is obsessed with the Japanese traditional game, karuta. After meeting a boy named Wataya Arata in her childhood who introduces her to karuta, her dream from then on is nothing less than to become the best in the world.

My opinion: Before I watched this anime, I suspected it would be a cliche, typical and bland ...

  • VERY surprised I like it this much...
I was very surprised I liked this anime so much. I was very close to giving up on it maybe ten episodes in because I still wasn't feeling the story, but good thing I decided to stick with it. IT'S REALLY GOOD. I know nothing about this card game at first and I still don't completely understand all the rules of the game after watching two seasons, but it's a great story nonetheless.
    Watch it. ...

So amazing, best I've ever watched!
This is so good, you won't believe it. Incredible plot, and you spend half the season laughing, and the other half crying. Second season was well done, and actually added something to the show, unlike other animes. Hoping for a continuation, a season three would be amazing!

  • Hoping for another season
Just finished the last episode to night.
I realy enjoyed this series. I hope more episodes come out.
I would like to see Chinaya go to the camp then take on the Queen.
I will just have to hunt around for the manga until then.

Here's your next game play anime
This series really defines what a good anime should be like. It is based off a very old card game called Karuta where the object is to steal cards placed between two players. Sound boring? It is anything but that. It is so intense and the manner in which they progress the matched and the interactions is so well done I can't imagine anyone not enjoying it. Its very funny too! Lots of characters but ...

    beyond amazing ><..

M always at the edge of my seat during every episode and this is the only series, especially once you get season 2, where I swear time goes by in seconds instead of minutes.

    Arata Faito!

    Truly One of the Best
Who would've thought that watching an anime about a card game could be so great
Chihayafuru is charming and pleasantly heartfelt. What I love about the series besides the fantastic characters is how the storyline unfolds perfectly. There's emphasis on how the characters develop into genuinely interesting and unique personalities. It keeps you in suspense as the characters' romantic overtones and ...

Great for those wanting to learn more about Japanese culture.
Before Chihayafuru, Karuta was a game that was almost completely unknown outside of Japan. I typically stay away from shows like this, even if it's based on real games (ex. Hikaru no Go), but this show is different. I've watched the first 50 episodes that have been released to this point, and it looks like it may be another year or so before/if we get Chihayafuru 3 since the manga is not that far ...
